the bright, clear light of a cold winter's day,
smelling the woodsmoke from the fire in the stove,
knitting up a pattern that is well written and clever*,
listening to Chill on my radio
eating hot buttered toast with tangerine marmalade
and drinking a good strong cup of English Breakfast tea, with one sugar please.
Added together, these equal a happy morning for me.
What are the things that add up to equal your kind of happy?
…………………………………………………
* The pattern is Alfredo Gloves by Suzanne Stallard and with its well positioned thumb and neatly integrated shaping it's the nicest pattern for fingerless gloves that I've knitted.
PS: the pattern is written for knitting in the round but I much prefer knitting things flat and seaming them with mattress stitch afterwards, so if you're a clever in-the-round knitter please don't let my pictures put you off giving a lovely pattern a go.
PPS: the yarn used for this pair was Madeline Tosh sock yarn in 'mare' and 'smokestack' full details on my ravelry page.
Your kind of happy, is pretty much my kind of happy Julie..! except I’ll have 2 sugars please?! 🙂

Hot coffee from my French coffee press and a scotch pancake, after a beautiful but chilly walk in the forest with my Jack Russell terriers (who are now absorbing heat from the Aga), whilst finishing a pair of the Welted Fingerless Gloevs, which you inspired me to have a go at. It took a couple of attempts to transfer the pattern to straight needles, but I cracked it! Just wondering how many pairs I can knit up for pressies now!? It’s too easy to get distracted looking at new yarns to buy and try!
What yarns are you using for the Alfredos?

Pretty much the same things make me happy too. 🙂 It’s a beautiful bright morning here too and I’m going to wrap up and walk to the post office in a moment, even though it’s very chilly it’s soooo much better than grey and gloom.
Your mittens look amazing. 🙂

Sounds perfect to me! I might change the tea to Earl Grey (no sugar thanks!), the marmalade to Frank Coopers orange, and the knitting to my latest crochet blanket…
Enjoy!

Ooooo. They are looking good Julie. What yarn are you using?
A happy morning for me would be a cup of hot coffee, an exciting parcel from the postman (!),some new and interesting crochet and one square of chocolate as a reward for good work if the crochet goes right!

I’m rather enjoying the sun pouring in through the window and making the baubles on the Christmas Tree sparkle. And ignoring the fact that the window is filthy!
Your gloves look amazing! xx

Just finished off some toast made from homemade whole wheat bread and homemade blackberry jam from our blackberry patch. Just finished a book that was delicious, The Natives are off to school, (Levi had a hard weekend, I’m sighing a big happy sigh that he got on the bus even though he was agitated……), thinking about taking a bath and curling up with yet another book…… It’s snowing outside….. a perfect day to snuggle down and keep toasty.

That looks a blissful morning – a great, sharp photograph, too. I think a coffee + a Danish, plus Radio 4 or a Caithness Craft Collective podcast and I’m happy… #daydreaming

A nice cup of thé au citron, hot toast with greengage jam. Knitting, thinking about knitting, planning a new knitting project, browsing knitting books, reading blogs like littlecottonrabbits, looking outside the window into the snowy landscape – THAT MAKES ME HAPPY! It even makes me happy when I haven’t got the time to do it -just thinking about it is great!

Mind you, I’d be one of those knitting in the round types as I like to avoid sewing up as much as possible! Gorgeous pattern and I think maybe another one to add to my list.

If ever there was a morning when I felt clever about ANYTHING, it would be amazing. For me, always – a good book (one I’m wriiting or one I’m reading), and all “shoulds” covered is as close to peace as I come.
