Winter is decidedly here. We've had a few days of sub-zero temperatures and the early morning frosts have been beautifully sharp and sparkly. Yesterday Toby and I bundled up and went for a long walk at Panshanger. The ice crystals adorning every blade of grass, twig and seedhead made for a very beautiful landscape and even the barbed wire fences were prettified by the decoration of frost.

And then this morning we've woken to around 15cms of snow!

I'm glad to have lots of cosy woolly jumpers, scarves and mittens and will be wearing my wrist-warmers constantly now until the weather warms. It looks like the rest of this week is continuing to be freezing, so there will be a little more knitting by the fire going on here. I'm now in the final stages of laying out the three new patterns and am lucky to have some lovely people helping me to error check them. Though it will still be a few weeks before they've been thoroughly checked, so I'm aiming to be able to share them in the new year.

Hope you have a good week doing a little of what you love, J x

  1. Thank you for sharing your lovely photos. They are all quite beautiful and the ones of Toby are so sweet. He looks very happy and content!
Your post made my morning – thank you for spreading cheer throughout the world. I can’t wait for the new patterns!
    Warmly,
    Jennifer

  2. Julie, you are so talented! I love your knitting AND your photography! (The barbed wire shot is my favorite.) Where I live, we are still having temperatures in the 50s and 60s. I’m ready for cold weather and sitting by the fire! Thank you for sharing your talents with us – I always smile when I see a new post from you. xx

  3. Thank you for this post Julie. I love all of the photos.looking forward to the new patterns.
Will you be doing any hat patterns?
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

  4. Toby looks so happy and bundled up. I love his beard! What lovely photos of the woods. It is snowing like crazy here. We’re in the middle of a three day storm. I’m glad to be bundled up inside knitting bears.

  5. Thank you for the beautiful wintry pictures. The addition of snow definitely brings a lovely silence to the countryside.
Hope your Christmas is blessed and you find some space for you!

  6. Wow, I don’t think I’ve ever seen frost do this before! Your pictures are gorgeous and capture the beauty of the season. I am trying to do more of this – not forever wait for the upcoming summer, but enjoy what each season has to offer.

  7. To Julie— May I add my gratitude for the Goodness you send out to those near to you and far away. Your photographs allow others to share in the beauty that surrounds you. I am with grandsons today, baking gingerbread cookies. Life is good. 😉

  8. Your photos are always wonderful (the Fox is my favorite) but today I am delighted to see a very handsome Toby who may become my new favorite. My dog, Stash, and I wish all your family a joyful holiday.

Merry Christmas! enjoy the holidays with family & friends!

  12. Fantastic winter photos, I love the ones of Toby and ones of the lake are lovely too. Knitting by the fire sounds just right. I am being distracted as I work at the dining table by all of the birds in the garden on the feeder and bird tables. CJ xx

  13. Beautiful pictures from your frosty walk with Toby. The detail on the seed heads and branches is stunning. Even the barbed wire has taken on a new beauty. Thank you for sharing.

  14. Such wonderful pictures of winter frost. We don’t get anything like that where I live. Thanks for the lovely post. Take care!

  15. Beautiful! I especially liked the barbed wire, as “wire” is on my list of things to photograph this year, and that is a great find. 🙂 As a knitter, I am warmer than I used to be, for sure!

  16. What a handsome young man! Thank you for sharing your photos. They are incredible! You find such beauty in the world, the barbed wire photo is just beautiful! I look forward to you photos as much as I do your patterns. Warm wishes to you and your family

  17. I am a great admirer of your work and I always find it amazing how you get such underful photos on your whereabouts. For sure, you live in a wonderful place! I am from Portugal and here we do not have that kind of lanscape…I hope you will find time to continue developping your natural and artistic hability to create your puppies. Wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

  18. What lovely photos. Toby has become a man, when did that happen, and he looks content. My Monique is still stuggling on ( she is only 12) and she also shares that ‘earphone’ look .( I am getting to old to keep up the home schooling so we are trying a special school next year.) My other grand daughter has put in an order for the little bears to joing the hord of others I have knitted for her, so it is knitting in the heat here. I wish you all a Merry Xmas and Happy New Year.

  19. So beautiful! I love your photos of the frost on the English countryside. I live in Canada so we are quite used to snow but it is very special when it is so unusual (and won’t last!) Toby is SO grown up!

  20. Your patterns have taught me so much and the animals given so much joy. Thank you and wishing you the happy and creative 2023 best wishes, Madeline Goodey
