getting growing again

Vegetabley things are going on again here and I feel so proud of all my little seedlings as they burst forth from their little compost beds.

Shed

It's a very magical thing to take a tiny dry brown seed and nurture it into a little plant and even better when you know it's going to be producing delicious things to eat in a few months time. After starting in earnest last year I am now completely hooked on growing veg and have quite a selection of seedlings ready to plant out for this season:

mangetout peas, dwarf french beans, tomatoes large and small, summer cabbage, tenderstem broccoli, oak leaf lettuce, courgettes and basil which will all be joining the carrots, parsnips, spring and maincrop onions, cos lettuce, potatoes and rocket that are already in the beds.

I'll no doubt be boring you rigid with more pictures of my garden produce in the coming months – sorry in advance!

bank holiday knitting

Well, as expected the bank holiday was a rather wet and windy one. There were a few sunny spells to tempt us outside but we were soon running back in again as yet another April shower swept over.

Still, it left plenty of time for knitting and I had a sudden urge to try out this wonderful free strawberry pattern.

Strawb2

It proved very addictive and soon I had quite a few. On some of them I kept going on the i-cord and added a leaf and flower at the other end to make bookmarks (not my idea – inspired by many of the creative adaptations over on ravelry).

Bookies

Book4

I have a little bowl of knitted strawberries now sitting on the table and they're making me smile and think of the summer to come. I hope it arrives soon!

The flower pattern is here and the adaptations that I made, yarn used etc can be found on ravelry.

order

Toby needs constant order and routine to make his world manageable. Yesterday his orderly row of balls which he neatly aligned in the middle of the lawn and graded according to size said it all.

Ball

Sadly today will see no play in the garden, it's pouring with rain here – good old bank holiday weather!
