Here in the south of England May is the most magical month. Throughout April there are always days that feel like they’ve been reclaimed by winter, with sharp frosts, cold winds and even late snow flurries. But when May arrives it brings a dramatic change and suddenly the countryside, which seemed so bare, brown and twiggy just a week ago, is clothed in a bright green growth.
If you visited these woods during winter you would think them rather dull, but they are at their breath-takingly beautiful best right now and to come and sit here with a coffee and a rather delicious slab of salted caramel brownie is such a privilege and delight. Sitting quietly on this log, surrounded by such beauty, smelling the delicate scent drifting up from the bluebells and listening to the bird song filtering down through the new leaves in the canopy is a joy and I’ll be back out in the woods again next week, making the very most of this fleeting natural wonder.
“I enjoy the spring more than the autumn now. One does, I think, as one gets older.”

PS: Thanks for all of the kind comments on the horses pattern, it’s almost done, will post again when all the final checks are finished, J x
The flowers are harbingers of calm and bring the hecticness of one’s day to a halt. Thank you for once again sharing the beauty in your corner of the world.

Beautiful. I enjoy walking through the bluebell woods on my own. Listening to the birds, sometimes hearing a cuckoo. It’s so relaxing. Looking forward to new pattern, so excited 🥰

Nothing quite like carpets of bluebells among the freshly green leafed trees! It’s wonderful and one of my favorite memories of England! Glad to hear winter is losing the battle and giving way to warmer temperatures and new growth in your part of the world. It’s been quite lovely here in California too. After years of severe drought, a very rainy winter has resulted in super blooms of bright orange poppies, yellow mustard flowers, blue lupine and other wild flowers. So grateful for sunshine and rain! Hope you can enjoy more visits to the beautiful woods and the bluebells! Always look forward a new pattern by you. The horse looks amazing!

The bluebell woods are a favourite memory of mine of when I lived in England many years ago.
Your photos are lovely, thank you,
Did you make the salted caramel brownie, I haven’t tasted one and just love salted caramel anything.
I shall google for a recipe.
Enjoy your spring beauty, as I am enjoying our Autumn finery.

Julie, thank you for these gorgeous photos. On my one wonderful visit to England, we went in May. I was overwhelmed at the daffodils! They were everywhere, growing like wildflowers do here in the states. Everywhere we went we saw gorgeous scenes. Each church we visited had little tableaux at the entry…..it was just after Easter that year….enchanting to see. It was the one foreign trip I ever wanted to make and it was magical. These photos just reinforce those memories. I bet the coffee and brownie were delicious too!

What I wouldn’t give to live in such a magical place. It reminds me of my grandmother’s woods and pasture. Gazing at these photographs, I liken the experience to being taken away in a Calgon commercial. Only better. LOL.
