New small sized clothing patterns

Hello there, it’s been a while and I hope you’re well.

It feels like I’ve been working on these patterns for a very long time indeed and they have to be the most stressful set of patterns that I’ve ever worked on – though not because the patterns are in any way complicated or difficult but because of the circumstances that they have been written under. For the last 4 months we’ve been in lockdown here, without the usual support of respite or school for Toby, and that has meant that his 24 hour constant care and supervision has been soley down to us. This has meant that I’ve had to grab small snippets of time to pattern write whenever they presented themselves to me and it’s not the way I like to work at all, nor the most effective way of maintaining focus and concentration.

Anyway, Toby was invited back to school 10 days ago and after a bit of a wobbly start he’s started to settle into the new routines. His school day is shorter than usual, but it has meant that I have had 4 hours and 30 minutes of uninterrupted concentration time with which to work on finalising these patterns and it’s been such a relief to be able to achieve something again and finally get the patterns finished.

So here they are. They are all designed to fit the small 7 inch rabbit pattern (not the larger 9 inch animals),

  • A dresses pattern with 20 different designs for the skirt and 3 options for the neckline;
  • A sweaters pattern with a cabled Aran sweater; a top down cardi with a yoke;  3 top down raglan sweaters: a T shirt, a long-sleeved sweater and a cardigan; and a simple sweater with 10 designs to duplicate stitch on to the front;
  • A dungarees and pinafore dress pattern.

I’ve decided to launch them altogether so that if anyone wants to purchase 2 or more at the same time they’ll automatically get the 15% multi pattern discount. They are currently available via Ravelry or Etsy (the discount will apply as soon as you add at least 2 patterns to your basket)

Sorry that there are not more pictures of the small animals wearing these outfits, time has not allowed that yet but I am hoping to take some more pictures over these next 2 weeks, which is the only time that is left to get anything done before the 7 week school sumer break begins. I’m hoping that I’ll also have a chance to finalise another pattern that I’ve been working on but it will depend on whether time is on my side 🙂

I’m looking forward to September when all being well,  I’ll have a few more free hours to call my own and I can get out and about with my camera and write a little more here on the blog, I miss that. Until then stay safe and well where you are, with love and best wishes from me xxx

  1. They’re brilliant, beautifully done and I love the little designs on the front, perfect. I’m glad that Toby has been offered some time back at school and that he’s starting to settle in. Good that you have a little time to yourself as well. CJ xx

  2. What timing. I have just finished a small rabbit as a gift for a new born. Was going to try doing the existing dungaree pattern on smaller needles but will give your ones a go instead with more confidence they are going to fit. Thank you.

  5. I have been holding you and your family in my thoughts over the last few months. I know from a friend in a similar situation just how tough it is.
    One day will get round to making some of your beautiful animals.

  7. These are so darling! I am looking forward to adding them to my collection of bunny patterns. Life has certainly NOT been normal this year! Thank you so much for making time in your busy life to add smiles and fun into ours.

  8. I have so much admiration for you. My pandemic experience has been only a series of very minor inconveniences. I’m exceptionally lucky to be experiencing it at this point in my life. I fret over my adult son living far away from me, but he also has been lucky to be navigating it well. This isn’t to say I haven’t been laid low with depression and worry about so many situations shared by the whole world. So, when I see the grace and determination you have in dealing with a much more challenging situation than me, and your exceptional creative accomplishments in spite of it all, it puts everything in a new perspective for me. I’m humbled and awed and inspired by your strength, wisdom and courage. Blessings on you and your whole family. Your knitting is a wonderful gift of joy for all of us.

  9. Julie, how nice to hear from you. Thank you for the calm you bring to my life, just in knowing you are there.
    The new clothing patterns are lovely; however, I do have a question. In your intro, you state:
    They are all designed to fit the small 7 inch rabbit pattern (not the larger 9 inch animals),
    I have your small rabbit with clothes pattern, and it states that the rabbits are 8” tall from toes to ears. So I’m confused about which animals these new patterns fit. Could you please specify? Thank you so much. Take care of yourself, Julie. Enjoy your “me time”, and greetings to Toby.

  10. Hello Lynette and thank you so much for your kind words. When I wrote up the small rabbit pattern I did state that it is 8 inches from toe to top of ears but then I realised that would be a problem for all of the other small animal patterns that I am writing up – you see the rabbit ears are the longest so I decided it would make more sense to measure all animals from toes to the top of their head (and disregard ear height). So the larger animals are 9 inches to the tops of their head and the small rabbits are 7 inches to the top of their head. The new clothing patterns fit the ‘Small Rabbit’ pattern (and will fit the other ‘Small’ sized animal patterns to come in future). Hope this helps to clarify, J x

  12. ohhh my! they are just too cute!
    do you also use tiny DPNs to knit those? match sticks come to mind but i’m a sock knitter so know how small needles can get lol
    do you do kits? with the animal, clothes, etc patterns plus all yarn… you know the whole kit & caboodle? might be easier for some, wouldn’t have to work out all the details (i know i would be more inclined to buy a kit)
    gorgeous designs
    thanx for sharing

  14. I quilt, embroider, and crochet. I do enjoy your blog,however, and love your delight in the beauty of nature. How is your Little fox visitor? Have you ever thought of providing patterns for crochet? I have tried repeatedly over the years to learn knitting but never mastered. Thank you for the respite your blog provides.
