New Patterns

Hello from the middle of the school summer holidays! This is a flying visit because free time is currently in short supply for me here but things are generally going well. Toby is being kept busy and the weather has been glorious, though a little hotter than we are used to. The reason I’m popping in today is to mention the two new patterns that I’ve released this morning. It has taken me so very long to finish these off – I’ve been working on them off and on for over 18 months. Originally I had designed the dungarees to go into the boy sheep pattern, but for various reasons decided against that. Then I was planning to dress the upcoming badgers in the dungarees and pinafore with T-shirts but decided against that too. It seems better that these clothes are stand alone patterns, as they will fit any of my animals. I had planned to launch them before the summer holidays started, but before they were completely finished life got in the way, as it is often apt to. Anyway, they are done at last, so here they are.

The first pattern includes a pair of dungarees (overalls), a pinafore dress and a little toy which fits perfectly into the pocket (bunny or bear). The garments are knitted flat in 5ply or 4ply yarn on 2.75mm (US 2) needles and the little toy is knitted flat in 4ply yarn on 2.25mm (US 1) needles.

The second pattern is a set of 3 sweaters. All are knitted top down with raglan sleeves and follow the same basic pattern with tweaks. The T shirt has narrow stripes, the long sleeve sweater has wider stripes and the cardigan is flared and knitted in one colour but you can switch those around if you prefer. There are instructions included for knitting them all flat with seams or in the round if preferred.

Here are links to the patterns on Ravelry:

If you do give any of the patterns a go and use Ravelry please upload your pictures to the little cotton rabbits group so we can all admire them. It’s so exciting to see what others make from my patterns and I do hope you enjoy knitting them.

I hope to pop back soon with news of other knitting stuff and some pictures of what we’ve been up to here but in truth it might be another few weeks before I get the chance to, I look forward to catching up with you then.

  1. Adorable as usual! Your timing is perfect as my son, Ben’s celebratory sweater is almost complete in time for his conclusion of his Masters in Animal Nutrition… so proud ☺️. I have some denim yarn waiting in my stash. Thank you… & enjoy what is left of the holidays. Hot here too & occasional torrential rain 🌧 💧💦🌊☀️

  7. Julie, I absolutely adore the dungaree and pinafore dress with the pockets and toy! I always buy your patterns hoping some day I will
have the time and talent to create such beautiful bunnies and animals. Until then, your blog and creations have been bringing delight and joy to my life. I have been following your blog for 13 years since I lost my daughter at age 17. We called her “Bunny” and I just wanted to know how much your delightful animals, nature photos and writings about your work and family have been a little world of enjoyment and comfort to me.
    Thanks for sharing! ❤

  9. Julie i am new to the world of little cotton rabbits. You have such a wonderful gift to be able to create these wonderful things. I don’t want to say toys as they are so much more to so many people. The colours and textures are so comforting. Like Susan Appelbaum, i too lost my daughter at 15 years old. She needed a heart and lung transplant but also had Downs Syndrome. She was ruled out from going on the transplant list because of the Downs. We knew from she was 9 months old she was terminal. There was so much more to her than Downs. I would give anything for one more day. I rarely find peace in anything. The beach and my garden calm my soul. I take comfort in all the things we did together that cost nothing but were such special times. Your rabbits take me to that calm place of peace and comfort. My own childhood races through my memories. I had a white rabbit that i dressed up in my knitted dolls clothes. I refused to play with dolls, i don’t know why. The rabbit and an old handbag of my grandmothers which i kept all my clothes in was taken with me wherever i went. I think the battles we have in life particularly where our children are involved can give us several gifts. Mainly i find my gift is the way i see life and help and understand peoples problems. I work in a pharmacy so am in the right place to use my gift.
You however have such a beautiful gift that you can physicaly show it by producing these wonderful memories/experiences for people.
I admire your strength and courage and wish you well with your children. Thankyou for sharing these wonderful things that clearly mean many different things to many different people. People always tell me i am a survivor, i laugh and say maybe i am or maybe i am just too stupid to quit!

    Amicalement

  14. Congratulations on having survived the summer holidays!
Don’t worry about Amy. Yes, I know that’s easy to say, but I’ve been there, done that, got two T-shirts. You’ve raised her as well as you can, now it’s over to her as you say. Our two have turned out very well and are busy supporting themselves and helping others big time. We are Very Proud (Older) Parents. You will be too.

  17. Your beautiful, whimsical animals seem like they could come alive in a storybook especially with your stunning photography skills. When I read you posts and view your photos it gives me a peaceful break like a walk in the woods. I’m a recently retired speech therapist and just learning to crochet. I hope to take up knitting one day. Peace be with you now and always.
