And suddenly Winter arrived…

Autumn leaves

In a few short but very windy hours last week most of the autumn leaves were blown away and winter breezed in. I had hoped to get out for a few more autumn walks but I've missed the boat for this year. Though I did manage to take some pictures around the garden before most of the leaves blew away and gather up some wonderful leaves from our neighbours cotinus smoke bush to dry. Still, the arrival of winter and the few early morning frosts over recent days have given me the perfect excuse to cast on a new pair of mittens and knitting by the fire is a happy trade off.

The pattern above is Pinwheel Mitts by BomBella designs (Ella Austin) in collaboration with Loop. I'm using yarn from my stash; Madeline Tosh sock in Robin Red Breast and The Uncommon Thread tough sock in Manuscript and the pattern is working nicely with the contrast. They'll be a perfect pair of christmassy mittens to go delivering presents in. Project notes are here.

Temperatures are set to dip into negatives tonight so I'm changing duvet covers on everyone's beds here this afternoon and getting blankets ready.

Hope you're warm and cosy and happy where you are, see you soon x

  1. I’ve gotI the pattern for the pinwheel mitts next up on my list, I didn’t have any plain yarn in my stash suitable, as its full of self-striping sock yarn. I’ve gone for Greek blue and sand, which I think is waiting for me at the post-office. Thanks for the notes on ravelry, will be useful for my little hands too. Big hugs from here Cxx
PS Wishing you a lovely Christmas & 2018

  2. Lovely pictures Julie. Winter has arrived in Cumbria too in the last few days. There is snow on Scafell and the air is crystal clear but very cold. I need some mittens like yours I think, that pattern and colour combination is gorgeous. Enjoy being cosy, perfect knitting weather.

  3. I have Flannel sheets are on all beds but then our weather shifted and it was 17 degrees C! Canadian Weather. I am sure winter will blast in soon. For now I am just basking in the sunny days. Love your mittens! So festive! I am still focused on cabled baby blankets that I am lining with flannel and cabled cardis for toddlers.
Love your photos. Makes me feel like I am having a little visit to your neighbourhood. Cheers!!

  4. Lovely mittens! I adore red in all nuances. I am knitting furiously to dress all my little friends for Christmas, will post the photos when i’m done. I miss only a dress and a sweater, maybe two leggings…if i can resist to make some other bunny, mouse, fox…
