a little batch of mostly bunnies

It's been longer than planned since I last wrote a post here, but life sometimes gets in the way and half term was busy. Amy had a wonderful time in New York (despite being there for the coldest Valentine's day in 100 years with temperatures at -17 and colder with the windchill). She saw lots, shopped lots, loved Les Mis on Broadway and was completely wowed by the city and all of it's sights and sounds. She also loved flying which was a relief for us both and can't wait to do it again sometime. Thanks so much for all the good wishes for her trip.

Since the children went back to school last week I've been trying to get myself organised. I've had a week of flitting from one thing to another and as a consequence nothing was getting finished but after sitting down and making lots of lists I've started to feel like I'm getting somewhere. Hopefully by the end of this week we'll have signed off on the latest ream of paperwork for Toby which will be a big relief to have out of my head. I've also just put the finishing touches to a small batch of animals which I'm hoping will have new homes in time for Easter.

March 2016

I've been working on these since the start of the year so it's nice to have them finished. Four of them have been listed on Etsy (already sold) and the other 4 are over on my shop blog, full details on how they're being offered for sale are here.

Now my head is a little clearer I'm going to be focusing on the next animal pattern. Most of the notes are scribbled down so now I need to write them up properly, make test samples, photograph the steps and test out the final pattern. It will be a month or so before that's all done but I'll keep you up to date with any news.

Thanks as always for stopping by, I'll be around a little more often now that I'm feeling a bit more organised so I hope to see you soon x

  2. Your animals all have such distinct personalities! They are gorgeous! I sympathise with the flitting, I am struck badly with this at the moment, not helped by a lurking virus. How exciting that Amy had a wonderful trip, I bet she took some great photos too, might you share a couple? I almost clapped my hands when I saw the clothes on the little hangers on the clothes rail. Just perfect. Off to write another list and add it to my pile of lists….

  3. Lovely to hear from you Julie,
it’s so hard to get going sometimes. I’m another one that has too many ideas running around my head! When I’m like that I don’t seem to achieve very much at all.
The new toys are all looking as gorgeous as ever. Lovely colour combinations too. I was going to say you are a true inspiration to me but, you’re also a very bad influence lol!
    Thank you for sharing xx

  4. How wonderful the new toys are looking – I love your attention to detail! Glad Amy had such a good time in New York – my son was there during the hurricane a few years ago, and despite being holed up overnight and not being able to do all they had planned, he still said he loved the experience and would not have missed it for the world!
I’m holed up finishing a knitting project – the last of 12 aliens promised for an educational project. So glad I am at the end and looking forward to doing something different.
Can’t wait to see what your new animal pattern will be! Onwards and upwards as my mother would have said…..

  5. They are so cute. Unfortunatly, i’m late and i’ve seen you have lots of demands.😢
As you wrote yarn informations on your shop, I will take my needles and make some to my Children.
Could you tell if you next pattern will be the bear? My children are in love with your bears and would really love to have one like yours.
I look forward to be in one month and discover your new pattern 😊

  7. Another beautiful batch of bunnies and things. We just completed a Little Cotton Rabbits class at the yarn shop where I work. It was very popular and we plan on running another in May. I too am looking forward to knitting your bear, badger and pig. Happy knitting!

  9. I couldn’t get the smile off my face while reading your latest message and looking at the pictures. I am so glad to hear Amy returned home safe and sound and had a wonderful time there. (-17 degrees, though, wow!) The animals are sooo cute, it does not matter how many I make, I will never reach that level of perfection. And the little clothes rack! Oh gosh.

  11. Hi Julie, you have been busy, I don’t know how you do it.
In love with all your animals but am a bit obsessed with your bunnies, I am so enjoying making them. The clothes are a joy to knit too. Looking forward to your new patterns too.
So pleased Amy had a brilliant time. Hope all the paperwork brings great results for Toby.
Keep up the good work. Sue x

  12. Dearest Julie…I don’t think you are flitting or not getting going…it sounds like you are flat out, highly productive & as usual I am in awe of the beauty you bring into the world. You are a Superhero…you turn string into things as well as perfom leaps & bounds for your children! I too have been consumed with form filling, getting “cognitive & adaptive functioning” testing completed, interviews, resumes…the list goes on…to get my Jack ready for the next chapter of his life…as well as keep up with my other two boys who are transitioning. But your knitting patterns are my solace, escape, pleasure & joy and my goal is to visit my Little Cotton Rabbit basket more often. Can’t wait for your new pattern…it’s like waiting for a baby! I love the surprise & I always know it is worth the wait!!!!!

  13. I’m a new follower. The internet is such a great support tool for those living with challenging lives. We lost our oldest son (20 years ago this April) one year after a heart transplant at the age of fourteen. I wanted you to know that sharing your life has been very inspiring. I was a quilter while dealing with our son’s life and illness. At the time I always felt quite alone because there weren’t any creative people around me. Thanks for sharing it touches many. I started knitting with your free patterns to sharpen my brain skills after an aggressive CHEMO. It has been such fun. I’m five years cancer free. Still knitting. Thanks again Gail

  14. Oh my, what a sweet little batch of bunnies. I think I am in love. The detail that you put into your animals and their clothing is amazing to me.
I’m glad to hear that your daughter had a good time in New York City. I, too, love to fly and it’s a good thing, since our children live all over the world and if I want to see them Then Mama needs to fly! Thank you for sharing your new batch of animals with us. I’m sure they will brighten up the hearts of someone very soon in their new homes.
    Blessings, Betsy

  17. Julie I would like to send you a little something. Not sure how to get your address. If you have a minute please reply. You have been such an inspiration I can’t thank you for sharing your life with others. I have gone back and read your blog from the start. Many of your thoughts are things I too have felt while dealing with an ill child years ago. Thanks Gail

  18. Hi Julie! I have followed your blog for years (it was actually the first “blog” I discovered on the internet years ago. I have to tell you that each and every time I see your pics I want to sit down and knit or crochet something! Your colors and detailed designs are like chocolate to a knitter/crocheter!
My daughter was also inspired by your work and at 17 started her own Etsy shop with baby hats and blankets. She is now 22 and has moved into more baby designs that are faster to create but she knows her roots are still with that crochet hook and ball of yarn!
May you be blessed as the years unfold with more creative designs and more love for your family than you already have!

  19. I loved seeing these in their constituent pieces a few posts back, Julie, and they are so gorgeous all put together. Love the soft grey/pink pastel shades. And I love your giant crocheted throw in the background – wow, that is a lot of work.
    Always inspired by your work.
    Julie :o)

  20. You are so amazingly productive! Although I know that it hardly ever feels like it, I suffer from the same sort of thing- no matter how much I get done, I can think of a million more things I need to get done, so the list never ends and I never feel caught up! Your newest crop of softies are beautiful, I love all the wonderful details.

  24. As always, when I get a moment to catch up on my favorite blog posts – yours is always one of the most beautifully written and photographed! Your banner is really exquisite – I’m sure you chose your glove yarn colors totally independently of the other colors in your banner – but everything is just so well done!
Now that Amy has come back with wonderful New York memories I’m hoping that someday you, too, might make that trip across the pond and even get all the way to the West Coast so maybe I could attend a seminar or at least a one-day visit in a yarn store in Oregon (?) !!! That’s probably pie in the sky at the moment…but I just wanted to tell you how excited I would be to meet you!
Today I took a moment and read through your tutorials. Such accuracy in instructions…I must get out my yarn and get back to knitting (I have been sewing clothes for myself and my grown daughter). You are an inspiration to us all, Julie! Thank you so much.
