It's rather dingy, wet and windy here today, so the best option is to snuggle up with some knitting, a hot cup of tea and some nice magazines.
And these magazines are particularly nice for me to flick through because I'm in them 🙂

The gloves I'm making are Vagabond fingerless mittens by Misa Erder and I'm enjoying trying out the magic loop technique for the main part of them. It looks complicated but once you get used to it, it is quite straight forward. The pattern itself is lovely, I particularly like the construction of the thumb.
Ok I'm off to knit a bit more before Toby gets home. Wishing you a good weekend and hopefully a relaxing one – though it's so often a manic time of year isn't it?

Yes, I love your banner too. Congratulations! Those Mittens look fab but I was completely foxed by the magic loop when I tried it for some (much simpler) mitts recently, I reverted to good old dpns.

I love to see your knitting up close Julie, you have such neat fair isle stitches, I find it so tricky to not make the stranding too tight. I am trying to knit a pair of fingerless mittens as a Christmas present for my mum and have had to abandon my fair isle attempt and go with something much more simple. Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas 🙂

Frenzied time indeed! But in our house, it’s a pleasant frenzy of sorts. We’ve been staying away from crowded stores and snuggling up together by evening light. (Of course, sometimes we’re constructing train tracks and cities, which means we forgo the snuggling…but it’s still cosy.)

Sales of that magazine just rose. As you do I was just reading the yarn harlot vogues whose little bear was her choice for her knitted advent calendar. I know. I recognised the hand of a knitterly masterpiece. Go Julie. Hope time is helping Toby work things through. Love to Amy. Love the boots. Go weird hair, any colour is fine. Just steer clear of the tatoos that will look awful in your later life and piercings that leave visible scars. ( and all others too!)

It is a bit of a manic time of year, but now my boys have finished school, I am hoping for a little chunk of time looking inwards, hunkering down and perhaps even a little bit of knitting. Bring it on!

Congratulations on your magazine appearances!! I love the colours you have chosen for your mittens–subtle and beautiful. Are you enjoying magic loop? I don’t use it–I found I spent more time pushing my knitting around than I did knitting. I like two circulars, or five dpns, using wood or bamboo needles, as you have on the thumb. Please let us know how magic loop works for you, and I would love to see the finished mittens too, of course!

Sometimes I wish I could just fly over there so I could sit and knit with you. Partly because it would be lovely to meet you, and partly because this plan involves just me, and I would be able to knit without distraction! 😉 Although, I’ve got the best distractions anyone could ask for.
