snippets of summer: garden

I'm afraid I'm not getting much computer time
at the moment – young master Toby has other ideas for keeping me busy. Today though he is elsewhere so I
thought I'd pop in and show you some snippets of recent days in the
garden.

We've been…lazing in the hot sunny weather and blue summer skies and then
scrambling about like mad to gather in washing and toys in the sudden
heavy downpours, marvelling at the dramatic clouds as the storms blow over, eating chilled
nectarines from the farmer's market and homegrown salads picked fresh from the garden and enjoying the rampant growth of
everything in the garden and all of the attendant wildlife.

As I mentioned keeping Toby occupied and safe is a full time job as he needs constant supervision to keep him out of mischief (thank goodness for CHIPs summer club and respite days that have given me some time off). Sometimes though the mischief is of the playful kind – I snapped this yesterday evening when I was making a cup of tea, I turned my back to empty the pot after warming it and turned back to find him wearing the warm cosy as a hat and sniffing the teabags (sniffing everything is his new thing at the moment). He found it very funny!

I hope to pop back soon with some snippets of summer knitting. All of
the hot weather hasn't made me feel much like plunging my hands into
wool but I have still managed to add to my large basket of stuff in
progress 🙂

See you soon, keep well and happy x

  3. I am afraid that my response to this post is to immediately WANT a white hydrangea. Very, very much. Maybe more than one.
Wishing you peaceful times amongst the hurly-burly of summer.

  4. Just love your photos, Julie!! Toby looks like he’s having a great time…Is the white flower really a hydrangea? That photo is magnificent!! Wishing you sunny skies and happy days, Maire

  5. Love the tea cozy pic 🙂 DH can’t resist putting anything vaguely head shaped on.. Lovely summer garden photos too; the spider’s web and bee both really caught my attention.

  7. My 6 year old Asperger-daughter just said that when she grows big she wants to become a police-dog, “because my nose is so good to sniff everything”. She´s also sniffing everything and everywhere. 🙂

  8. Your photos are just lovely. They look more like spring. Lush. We’re a bit hot and dry here and all flowers are looking a bit wilted even with much watering. I’m feeling much the same way I think. The weeds on the other hand never seem to be bothered by the weather or time of year. They just thrive and thrive.
I’m with Toby. I got a good laugh out of his antics.

  9. Love your gorgeous photographs……My (eccentric but darling) husband likes to sniff books and newsprint…and apparently always has say the family! Toby’s picture made me laugh aloud…he looks very handsome and cheerful in his “hat”.
Enjoy the chilled nectarines…we had several weeks on those, but currently its cherries…eaten whilst sitting in the shade and keeping a beady eye both on a new plum tree with a crop of fourteen fruits developing well…and the three blackbirds who are also keeping a beaky eye or three on the fruit! Love to you and the family…..Jenni xx

  11. I was going to quote Billy Connolly at you and express my desire for a white hydrangea (we did have one but the Mr. killed it) but I see others have got there before me. Clearly I should keep better track of new posts if I want to leave original comments 😉
Instead I shall wish you a lovely rest of the summer 🙂

Glad you’re getting to enjoy your time with Toby as well as getting some well deserved respite for you both. Hopefully Amy will have a little time in her busy schedule to spend a bit of time for her mum too. Your photo’s as always are lovely especially the young man in the very fetching tea cosy….

  15. What a lovely photo of Toby 🙂
Your garden shots are beautiful – sadly my garden is a bit of a mess this year because I’ve been distracted by running but hopefully next year will be better. One lovely thing is that the nasturtium seeds you sent me last year have flowered again 🙂

  18. Hello Julie
Just wanted to say once again thank you so much for sharing the bunny pattern.
I have not been very well just recently (suspected ovaraian cyst that has turned out to be gallstones 🙂 so have spent a lot of time resting due to pain and knitting lovely bunnies which has made me very happy.
My first one is very well loved by my cousin’s four year old daughter who got her for a birthday present and I have so many more requests for presents for people who have seen my first bunnies.
While I was looking at the Little Cotton Rabbits group today on Ravelry I was thinking about all the bunny love that is spreading, so many people have been made happy by knitting your designs but more importantly by getting the beautiful bunnies that they have knitted. There are a lot of happy kids out there thanks to you.
You are are very special person, everyone who reads your blog knows that but also so talented, your patterns are a joy to knit and we are all so looking forward to your new ones.
Much love to you and your family.
    Alison xxxx
