time flies

Thismoment

I've been sitting here, in the quiet of the early afternoon, with my cup of coffee, sewing up bunny heads and pondering just how it can be 28 years since these two young people went out on their first ever date

He andme

and yet yesterday their oldest child became a teenager. Doesn't time whizz when you're not paying attention to it?

Me young 2

Yes, that is me holding a very dodgy 'art' project which is supposed to represent a dragonfly wing. The homemade aran jumper is sound though, even back then I loved knitting – good job I've stuck to it and not sculpture eh?!

  1. Not dodgy at all – beautiful…though I did wonder what it was at first.
I can’t match your twenty eight years, but our eldest will be a teenager in just a few month ‘oh blimey’ I hope it’s not going to be a rough ride.

  2. Firstly, happy birthday to Amy, a teenager, wow!!! 🙂
What an amazing photo Julie, the aran sweater is beautiful, the sculpture’s pretty good too! 🙂
We were married 31 years last month, I really don’t know where time goes too, especially today when I have spent more time on the laptop instead of wielding a duster!!!!!. 😉

  3. Time certainly does fly, Julie. I can remember knitting aran jumpers for my children, now aged 34, 32 and 26! And my Grandaughter is soon to become a teenager!
Never made a sculpture though! But I have just learnt to crochet….. and to blog!

  4. Twenty two years for me, very frightening. I was a teenager just starting an engineering apprenticeship. Now I must be a grownup but time certainly does fly!! Sarah. Loving the jumper!!

  5. I can remember when Brian and I had been married ten years and thinking, “Wow, those ten years went by so fast and yet, looking ahead, ten years seems like such a long time”! Also, realizing that in ten more years our household would start to change drastically as the first of our goslings would be leaving the nest soon and then the next, and the next…… and as quickly as we added them to the nest, they’d leave just as quickly!
Your jumper is beautiful! I have to disagree with you though! 🙂 I knew that your art project was a wing and I thought it fabulous! I think you’ve more talent for sculpting than you give credit for. Especially as your little characters you knit are a form of sculpting that so many of us try our hardest to get a hold of!!!! 😀
Happy Birthday to your Amy. So many warned me that the teenage years are horrid. With a house full of teenagers I keep waiting for the horrid. I’ve really enjoyed the big people in this house!
Congratulations on your 28 years. Amy and Toby are so blessed to have you and your hubby as their mum and dad. My wish for you is that someone would come and watch your two while you and your hubby go out on a date and reminisce a little bit. 🙂 I wish I lived closer……. I know it is hard getting away…….. 9. Oh, how I love these pictures. And the dragonfly wing. I’ve seen many a dodgy student art project in my time – this is not one of them: lovely detail, delightful texture, whimsy even then. But the jumper – HOLY CATS. Funny – I don’t even count the years much anymore. And one ceases to be quite so amazed after one’s baby is not only on the far side of teen-ness, but married in his own home. Life is a grand thing, a puzzling thing, a thing that leaves you blinking and thinking hard. But the one thing I know for sure is that whatever roads you and I have travelled, we have ended up friends – teenagers or not. You will live through that bit. It gets complicated, but it often turns out very well, indeed.

  12. Hi Julie
Congratulations to you and your husband – it was our 26th Anniversary yesterday. Sophie will be 21 On Monday.
LOVE that Aran – we were both knitting Arans in the 80s, then? Gorgeous cables. Jamie is now wearing the one that I made for Kevin in 1984. It really looks as good as new. So much nicer than the poor qulaity ones in the shops, this year.
    Happy Birthday to Amy. x

  19. Happy, happy anniversary! And now I shall lock myself in my closet and cry softly to myself because I could never have made that sweater in my early twenties, and I certainly could not master it now.
My knowledge of modern sculpture is limited: my frist thought was that something had gone very wrong during your bike repair. 😉 But the sweater makes me do the Rumplestilskin dance of petulance.

  20. Happy Anniversary and Happy Birthday. Wow! A teenager. How exciting. On 9-26 we celebrated our 48th. I can’t believe it. Looks like I’m one of the oldest to write a comment on your blog. I loved the Aran jumper along with the photos. Aren’t the older photos fun to look back at? Where does the time go! Love your blog, your bunnies and your courage, patience, talent and everything else that makes you so special.

  21. What a wonderful portrait of you! And somehow you look exactly right, almost as if I’d known you all along, which is crazy, because I can hardly say I ‘know’ you now! I wouldn’t have predicted the art project though! That is rather fun. And the sweater is fabulous 😀
31 years for us, which is very, very scary!

  26. What beautiful pictures! And I had a pair of those shoes too! I had my own aran made by Nana Bridie, my godmother’s mum, and I loved it, used to pretend I was in Haircut100 just on the basis of that jumper. I’m envious your knitting was that good when you were so young, talent spilling out of you right from the start! Thank you for sharing your memories, congratulations!
