crafts & knitting

back to knitting

Well, after braving Sunday's weather on the 10k walk I'm not feeling at all guilty to be curling up with my knitting (and truth be told I was aching just a little bit at the beginning of the week!) I have lots of animals to finish off, so at the moment I'm trying hard to resist casting on a couple of new ones in these gorgeous yarns…

New yarn

Shilasdair's Luxury DK (10% Cashmere, 10% Baby Camel, 40% Angora and 40% British Merino Lambswool) is produced on the Isle of Skye and dyed with natural dyes like madder and onion skins. I'm also finding the thought of trying out a few bunny dresses in the Quince & Co 'sparrow' (100% organic linen) rather tempting. I will resist (for now) and press on with finishing off because there are lots of spring dresses to sew up

Clothes

and lots of heads and limbs to be attached to fat-tummied bodies!

Legs2

Enjoy the rest of your week and if you have any excess sunshine with you please could you send a little this way – the constant heavy rain here is getting a bit repetitive!

  2. Oh Julie I really do love watching your batches of little characters developing. They each take on their own little personalities and every one is so special. Keep up the good work.

  3. Oh, those little round tummies in tights remind me of my girls when they were tiny – seems hardly possible to think they were chubby little toddlers when I look at their long gazelle legs now!

  4. Teehee. That last shot could have been taken in a preschool, all glorious roundy fat tumblelodes with stripey tights and sweet shoes.

  5. Your work is always so gorgeous! I have been offline for a little while and didn’t see about your walk. Is it still possible to donate. It would only be a little amount as my husband has gone back to full time study this year but I used to be a teacher before I had my little girl and taught beautiful students who sound similar to your lovely son.

  6. Such cuteness in that little row of tummies!! 🙂
    Sweet little dresses too!
I have some of that Sparrow yarn, it is beautiful, I really will have to get it out from the bottom of my knitting bag and get something made with it, much too nice to be waiting around in there. 🙂
Happy Thursday Julie, we have 18 degrees here today and wall-to wall sunshine, sending some your way!

  7. A new warren! Can’t wait to see the new bunnies. Hope the rain does not wash out your garden. We are finally getting warmer weather here, but it’s hit and miss. Enjoy the down time, it won’t last long!

  8. Ooooh, look at all those little bunnies in waiting — too cute! I’m sorry about all the rain. I’ll confess it’s my fault — I’ve been hoping it will rain and rain now so that late summer will be sunny and gorgeous! ;-D

  9. I adore that last photo!! It’s what I look like at the beach! 😀
How do you find the yarns that you use! Do you peruse the Internet looking for yummy yarns? Or are they in local shops?
We’ve a local shop here that has scrumptious yarn but I do love to see/try other yarns and the yarns you find are delicious.

  10. Sorry – no sunshine here to send your way!
By far the sunniest things I’ve seen today are your bunnies and the dresses that await them!

  12. Oh. I wonder what I did with my comment? I’m still sick, and very very stupid! I called you the bunny mommy. Or I thought I did. Anyway – it’s always like Christmas eve when you show tantalizing bits of what will come. LOVES!

  14. Rachel, I’ve seen your photo and your tummy is flat as a pancake! Yes I do peruse the internet looking for yummy yarns – too often in fact which is why there are bags and boxes of yarn all over our house (much to H’s chagrin!)

  15. It is still possible to donate but don’t worry because I’ve been asked if I’ll do the walk again next year so I have a feeling that I’ll be putting out my hand for donations to CHIPs again. Maybe if you’re able you could donate a little something then. Many thanks for asking x

  16. I’ve been reading your blog for a couple of years now and being able to read your posts and see your pictures each day has gotten me through some rough times. I am trying to learn how to live simply and this site gives me comfort and inspiration. Thank you for keeping this beautiful blog going!

  17. Oooh I love seeing the little dresses and their wearers coming together! Do you decide on a colour scheme for each animal before you start knitting them or does it all come together as you go along?

  18. Your bunnies are always super adorable Julie and brighten up my day when I see them being made. I just love your colorwork clothes. Is there a secret to stop them looking lumpy when you change colors as my colorwork never seems to work right and always looks bumpy when I knit kid’s clothes.

  23. Such beautiful photos of the “work in progress”. Are they going to be for sale on Etsy? I sure hope so. I have a wonderful home to give one of them if a miracle can ever happen! I admire your work/craftmanship and your courage, Julie.

  26. Sunshine….be careful what you wish for! Here in the warm desert of southern Arizona it is hard to justify wool knitting!! The first week of May and I am already TIRED off the heat! I would love to curl up on the couch with a couple cuddly animals and a hot cup of coffee and KNIT away!! If you lived here we might not get to see so many adorable little cotton (or wool) rabbits!! Keep on knitting and writing!!

  29. LOVE those adorable little dresses and fat little tummies…can’t wait to see them finished! Would also love one of them! The problem is that I have SIX granddaughters – does that mean that I would have to keep it?! 😉

  30. Oh the little fat tummies made me smile. What a cute shot. The dresses look sweet too. Those new yarns are very tempting. I fear I would not have your will power! I managed to finally get the hang of crochet a couple of weeks ago and so I am now experimenting with which yarns I prefer for a bit of hooky fun. All my little girl’s sweaters, cardigans and hats have had little flowers attached to them (whether she likes it or not!).
We had some beautiful sunshine here today but a very cold wind straight off the north sea. I will try and wish some of the bright stuff your way. x

  31. Thanks Julie for your response. I am going to donate this year as next year we will be up to 12 months with out an income so probably not a lot of spare cash around:) Not doing it to enter competition, just want to donate to such a worthwhile cause. xxx
