Bubbles, bouncing and yet more blossom

Last weekend was lovely here. The first proper days of spring arrived, bright and warm enough to tempt us outside for most of the day.

Toby was in his element once again, tearing around the garden and reacquainting himself with his beloved trampoline and swing (which are completely neglected in the cold and wet of winter). We bought him an industrial bubble blower earlier in the year and this was its first outing (he's broken 3 cheaper ones in the last year and this one is the kind used by DJ's at kiddies parties, so hopefully it will last). It created a most impressive stream of bubbles which completely thrilled Toby and he was once again transported to ecstasy by the delights of bouncing in a bubble storm! His favourite trampolining manoeuvre is a back-drop which he throws himself into fearlessly and that's why you can see his feet right up near the top of the netting! He scares the pants off me!

I will definitely have to ration bubble time though – we got through a whole litre of bubble mix in the 2 days! I think in future the kitchen timer will be pressed into action and bubbles will be limited to 10 minutes at a time, aren't I a spoilsport?

It was so warm and sunny that we even managed to coax Amy away from her computer and she came outside to swing for a bit. H & I just pottered, tidying up the garden at a leisurely pace and enjoying Toby's squeals of happiness. I couldn't resist taking a few more blossom pictures. The tree is so beautiful clad in frothy white blossom and although it's not yet at it's peak, it is a sight that lifts my spirits.

Being outside in the sun again has really energised me and made me realise how tired and weary I've felt of late. I feel like tidying up the house, sorting out the garden and tackling a long list of tasks that I've been putting off for too long. Unfortunately I've got Amy home from school with a flu-like virus so the spring cleaning will have to wait for another day – I wonder if my urge to tackle it will last!

  1. Oh what a lovely weekend you’ve had together. It’s amazing how a little spring sunshine really lifts everyone.
Sorry that Amy in unwell, it’s going around our two have both had the same in the last couple of weeks.
I’d leave the spring cleaning until another day!

  4. What beautiful photos Julie! How lovely that Toby was so happy, back outside in the sunshine. Your blossom is way ahead of we folks in the Midlands. Ours is only just showing buds, and the plum tree says its far too cold to show its blossom yet

  5. I was going to say what Chris said, only with much less specific information. Then again, you have coin in your hand with that bubble business, and parcelling it out may give you an edge in the Toby-taming game. Or maybe not. I went out and fired up the tractor today – to comb the poor, chopped up, messy arena. When I was finished, I felt a satisfaction that I rarely feel, wrestling with words or tech processes. It’s not quite warm, and it’s windy, which makes things rougher, but better than it has been. The flowers coming up are like hope – and the moving air is becoming more magical and less an enemy. Not a good time for Amy to be sick, but better, perhaps, than it might be a few weeks from now. Bless her heart – tell her to be strong and visualize her white cells as hounds running down the viruses to crunch them up in their teeth and leave them powerless. Has she ever read Dogsbody?

  6. I’ve been feeling the same way! The sun is finally coming out, the temperatures rising. It has been glorious. I’ve been trying to go outside and just sit even for just a few minutes for the last few days.
Yesterday I got out the rototiller and turned the dirt in some of my gardens. Nice rich brown dirt. Makes me happy.
No blooms on the trees yet but the bulbs are starting to poke through the ground a bit more and more everyday.
I hope your Amy feels better soon and it doesn’t go through the rest of the family.
The images of Toby doing his death defying jumping in bubbles brings a huge smile to my face. I can imagine his giggles and squeals.
Crossing fingers, toes, eyes, etc. that you still feel such energy after the sickness passes and are able to do all on your list!!

  7. You are one very good mother…. I think the world of you. Cherry blossoms are my favorite… Looking at them calms me down and make me enjoy every second.
