germy half termy

Last weeks half term break turned into a rather germy affair for us when poor Toby came down with a mystery virus and reacted with his usual high temperature fever of 103o – 104o. He looked really awful and was groaning a lot and that together with the really high temperature had me on high alert. I always find these episodes rather scary as it is difficult to gauge how ill he really is because he simply can’t tell anyone how he’s feeling, and like all things Tobyish you have to rely on guess work and trust your instincts. After 2 days of lying flaked out in bed refusing all but the tiniest sips of water his temperature started coming down and when he started requesting chocolate ice-cream again we knew he was feeling better!  Having his big sister on hand for tickles and cuddles cheered him too.

A&t

Today they are both back at school and I’m enjoying some time to knit again. I have been working on lots of animals over the last 2 months but seem to be having difficulty with knuckling down to finishing them off. Recently I’ve been in a real knit phase and the thought of sewing up and stuffing is a chore, so for now I’m going with the knitting urge and as a result have this big old tangled basket of bits and pieces. I’ve been especially enjoying making clothes – mostly lots of dresses with flowers which are probably a result of my yearning for the arrival of spring!

Hopefully the desire to sew up and stuff will seize me soon and a few more finished animals will emerge from the mess!

  1. Glad to hear the germ situation has resolved itself and everyone is well again. Also, nice to get a sneak peek at some sweet animals in production. Hopefully with Easter only 6 weeks away all your fans might be in with a chance of buying some finished easter bunnies? Keep us posted if you can.

  2. What a beautiful picture of Toby and Amy, one to treasure. Glad Toby is feeling more like himself now and that you are having fun with your knitting. Looking forward to seeing the finished fluffies soon (and fingers crossed being lucky this time!) Love, Rosy x

  3. Happy to hear everyone is back on track. Know the feeling of high fevers. My daughter’s would up to 105 which would bring on visions of unique things she thought she would see. So glad that stage of her life is over. Those little animals look so cute. The little gray bunny seems to be calling out to me. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that maybe she might be able to join our home. Have a great week. Deb

I love the shopping basket full of animals. I’m imagining a LCR supermarket where you could shop for super cute animals in delightful knitted outfits. Too cute!

  7. Oh I can’t wait!! I can’t wait to see what little animals you create and their beautiful clothing to go with. I have to say the stuffing and sewing up is my least favorite part of knitting too. So, I say just go with it. If you feel like knitting, knit away!! 🙂 It just means when you do feel like sewing all of that up, there will be even more for us to drool over. 🙂 Sounds like a win win to me!!
I’m glad Toby is feeling better. That photo is just priceless. You can’t help but sit and gaze at it for awhile and be filled with smiles.
Here’s to hoping for no more sickies!!

  8. How is it that children always seem to keep themselves going and then collapse with some lurgy or other in the holidays? Glad Toby is over it anyway – thats a lovely photo of the pair of them.

  10. We’ve been sniffly and heavy around here, too. I secretly don’t mind it, that excuse to be idle for a few days. I know I’m doing better by the signs too: only for me, it’s not chocolate shake, it’s impatience to be up and doing – something. May I also admit that I secretly didn’t mind when the children were down for a bit (as long as it wasn’t scary – and yours was scary, so I’m sorry about that), because then they all held still and were far more cuddly than their active, busy selves.
Spring is a time for a certain restlessness. A time for swinging from one hunger or yearning or something to another, sometimes in quick succession. A basket-full of wonder you have there. Your things are magical. They always are. Charm for all hearts. As God himself is, in his most Godlike heart, the constant creator, and as spring is just a mirror of the rising of sun and Son, it stands to reason that the daughters of his light and love would spin love from their hands. And that’s how it’s as easy to know them by sight as it is to know when Toby feels better.

  11. Sorry Toby has been poorly – it must be very difficult when he can’t tell you what is wrong or how bad it is.
Keep knitting! The sewing and stuffing urge will happen eventually when you want to bring the little characters to life :o)

  13. So nice to read a new blog from you. I was thinking about Toby over half-term, wondering how he was coping with the change in routine-hoping you’d had a relatively OK time. I certainly didn’t expect that Toby had been ill. I’m glad he’s on the mend again, and back at school. Happy knitting. By the way, inspired by you, I’ve finally started my one-a-day crotchet blanket.
