one a day update

I'm still rather astonished at all of the comments that I received on the previous post for my little giveaway. When I started this blog in 2006 I didn't really know where it would take me and I certainly didn't imagine for one minute that I'd have so many people around the world who were interested in the little things that I love to make. I don't know how to  begin to thank everyone for the kind comments and for keeping me company here, I am so very grateful.

After all of the recent bunny knitting I've been enjoying dipping back into some of the other unfinished projects that are lurking in baskets and bags around here. In particular my old china blanket which was supposed to be a one a day project but has been a little neglected of late. Back in October it had 49 squares…

49

Today it has 68…

Still, it is progressing, even if the pace is a bit slow. I've decided that I'm aiming for 99 squares (9 x 11) with a wide-ish border of some sort. I had hoped to have it finished by Christmas but I'm beginning to suspect it won't be, especially now that we've entered the final run up and there are so many other demands on my time. I have also begun to suspect that it will in fact not be mine when it's finished as someone around here seems to have taken rather a fancy to it!

Still, that's what it's all about really, it is a lovely feeling when you've made something that someone else treasures.

Wishing you all a stress-free week, may all your Christmas shopping trips be successful!

  1. Well, can’t blame Amy for taking a shine to it, I think I would struggle to be parted from it as well! The colour combination is just perfect and very pleasing to the eye.

  2. It’s a lovely little story about a lovely little project that warmed my heart this cold December morning, when it’s snowing and I just got in from work. 🙂 Thank you!

  3. Your blanket looks beautiful, and I agree with you – the joy from seeing someone else loving something you’ve made makes it all worth while. I’m fortunate that my kids are both incredibly grateful for anything they are given (My Boy: “A paper bag!!!!! I always wanted a paper bag” etc!) – they always ask if the thing I’m making is for them.
As for the comments on your last post, they are totally well-deserved – your little creatures are just SO awesome – I just love looking at them. Beautiful!
Hope you have a lovely week

  4. I’d die if I had to make a border around the whole blanket – I’ve such a short attention span. I’d have to end up doing it in all the colors – which would be ruinous, I think. Then again, if I had that sweet picture of Amy in mind, I’d do it, regardless. The blanket looks just wonderful. I’m fortunate like you and Sarah – my children are remarkably appreciative and love things I make for them. Just last night, when we decorated the tree, they were VERY aware of which annual ornaments they had not been able to carry off to their own homes yet, and were here to collect them – as though those little things I’ve made over the years were gold. It made me feel pretty wonderful.
And you know how I feel about your work, and the great spirit of love that goes into them.

  10. You inspired me back in October to learn to crochet granny squares….a friend taught me how and I’m on my way! Progress is very slow with the holiday season….but I think I will make it a New Year’s resolution 🙂 I’ve been a knitter since I was a little girl…so I’m happy to expand my horizons!

  11. Boy, the afghan is really coming along. I bet you are really happy you changed the colors in the beginning because it is just beautiful. It will be a keepsake for Amy. It looks “good” on her too! I am amazed at the power of the internet how it can bring craft friends together who really can appreciate each others’ work. I’m still hoping for a rabbit some day!!! 14. I know what you mean about your blanket – my one-a-day squares are more like one-a-week at the moment! However it is, (what there is of it) like yours, lovely & warm.
Your giveaway attracted so many comments – your bunny was in such demand!

  15. I just adore the colors you chose. How lovely that your daughter is already cherishing the blanket. I love when my kids take a shine to one of my projects, especially while it’s still on the needles.

  16. I think this might not be the first thing you’ve made that someone else treasures 🙂 It’s lovely though – the colours are spot on. You were completely right to brave out the one you didn’t like. There’s something about it that reminds me of country kitchens, summer gardens and books like Goodnight Mr Tom. (Don’t ask me why – the last bit, I’m not sure either).

  17. The best compliment right there all snuggled up in your blanket. I did the same thing to my mother when she was here visiting helping to care for me. Each day she’d visit me in the hospital she’d work on a crochet blanket she was making. Each night when she’d leave I’d ask for the blanket to be put on me. In the end she ended up giving it to me and yes, I’m an adult who sleeps with my blankie every night. 😀

  20. My thoughts are with you…I live in the USA, Oregon. I came across your work while browsing and love it. I missed out on the little bunnies. Can you tell me how much in dollars they are? I will check Etsy in January. My friend’s son has autism and he is in his 30’s. He lives by himself and gets along okay in our small town. Stay positive…Carole
