last days in the garden

We've had some wonderful weather here for the last few days – a real indian summer. Toby enjoys the garden so much when it's warm and dry but because he can't bear to touch wet surfaces and won't wear shoes in the garden, it won't be very long before he isn't able to play outside anymore. So we've been making the most of this last blast of summer and filling the time after school with as many bubbles and as much bouncing as is possible!

We've even stayed out until sundown and been rewarded with some beautiful skies

I do hope that this winter isn't going to be too harsh and we get some more bubbly, bouncy days to tide us over until spring arrives.

Have a lovely weekend wherever you are and please send any spare luck my way for tomorrow evening as I'm hosting Amy's 12th birthday party sleepover. I have a feeling sleep may not actually feature much!

  1. Toby certainly seems to be enjoying the lovely weather, and I can’t say I blame him. Fingers crossed the winter will be kind to us all.
Good luck with a gaggle of giddy 12 yr olds – you hopefully will have a nice bottle of vino to recover with afterwards xxx

  3. Lovely, lovely photos and a real last gasp of the summer. Happy 12th Birthday wishes and a successful sleepover. You might even be able to teach them all to knit…or crochet! x

  4. Happy Birthday to Amy 😀 Maybe if the sleepover girls can be encouraged to bounce until after sundown too then they’ll sleep!!! Those are gorgeous up and down photos of Toby x

  6. Tonight was my Chaz’ birthday party as she will be gone next week. But she’s 28, so the guests not only did not sleep over, but are generally civilized. Here’s hoping it will or did (dang 8 hr diff) go well. I’ll write you some more tomorrow if I can. It’s been a mighty week. Those shots of Toby and the bubbles in silhouette are astonishing and powerful.

  7. Sleep overs never involve any sleep. Its traditional! But, so long as theres some distance between you and them, the giggles of pre-pubescent girls shouldn’t be too bad! Your garden does look amazing, and I know how much fun trampolines and bubbles can be. Pretty much all I did with my childhood 🙂
Happy Birthday to Amy, and I hope everything goes well!

  8. Such wonderful photos of Toby and the bubbles. Hasn’t it been glorious? Hoping to spend the day in the garden today to do some autumn sowing and having a general tidy up.
Hmmm, good luck with the sleep over!

  9. Guarenteed to have no sleep-but what fun! Girls love sleepovers don’t they? Boys don’t seem to see the point! Toby looks so happy on his trampoline-the pictures are beautiful

  10. Happy birthday, Amy. Weather’s been super hasn’t it, fingers crossed it continues. Just found out that the Indian refers to Native American Indians not India – never thoght about before (but we don’t get one very often do we?).

  11. I always think sleepover is such a misnomer as you say sleep rarely features in such events.
Lovely that Toby can enjoy some extra garden time!
What ever you do don’t move here as it has rained since lunchtime Friday practically non-stop, no Indian summer here. 😦
Hope the weekend festivities go well and a very happy 12th birthday to Amy, hope she enjoys her day!

  12. Hello, I am Margarida from Portugal, and I follow your blog a few years ago, I love your work you are a woman of great courage and strength. I also have a child with health problems, not as severe as yours, and sometimes is not easy … kiss for you, stay well.

  13. Beautiful sunset!
Funny. Levi won’t wear shoes but is actually drawn to water. He is obsessed with water. I can’t keep him out of it which as you can imagine with a creek nearby, water in toilets, etc….. can be a bit of a problem. 😀
I will send many good vibes your way in the hopes of a short, dry winter!
