23!

At last I'm finishing off that big old batch of knitted animals that I've been working on for the last 2 months.

Cressida

There's a lot of hours in each one (between 10 – 12 depending on what they're wearing) and I do prefer listing a bunch together rather than listing each when they're finished, so it does take me a while to get them ready. This is the biggest group that I've ever done and includes bunnies, foxes, elephants, monkeys, pigs, a panda and a mouse so hopefully there's a little character in there to appeal to all.

Harper

I'm not going to show all of them here but there are photos of all 23 over on Flickr including this one of poor little Pabla who ended up looking a bit yoda-esque!

Pabla

I couldn't bring myself to change her ears because once each animal is finished they adopt a little bit of personality and I get a little bit sentimental about them, so hopefully someone out there will find her appealing!

Thanks again to everyone who's shown an interest in my work. I'll email the mailing list early next week with details of where and when these will be listed for sale and I'll pop updates on my facebook page too.

Happy weekend all, I'm off to watch Amy on stage in her drama group show this afternoon. She's not at all nervous but my heart will be pounding and I'll have my tissues ready too!

  1. They are all absolutley adorable, Julie! So sweet and whimsical. Is it still possible to be added to your e-mailing list for availability? I would love to purchase one of your creations for my granddaughter. It’s never too early to start a little collection of things that inspire the imagination. 🙂

  7. I really hope I’ll be lucky this time. It’s my birthday this week, and our 40th wedding anniversary at the end of the month, so one of your gorgeous ‘family’ would make July a great month!

  8. These are just gorgeous Julie, I am always amazed you come up with so many different and unique items of clothing. The little pig may look “Yoada-esque” to you, but to me she is the sweetest one in your collection.

  11. I know how you feel about your little animals…….we knit teddy bears for kids in Malawi and, as soon as I do the face, it becomes one of “my boys” and the thought of them being vacuum packed fill me with dread ‘cos they can’t breathe!! Silly me!!

  12. You must be so pleased with them all, they are delightful. Gosh you must be a fast knitter, because they are very time consuming. My favourite is elissa I love her colours.

  14. I love your animals!!
Do you sell patterns for any? I checked out your Etsy shop and would love a bunny pattern – I bought a knitted bunny pattern from Mary Jane’s Tearoom in the end (whispers but it’s not as lovely as your bunnies).
I’ve only just realised I can knit and would love to try a bunny like yours.

  17. Good for Amy, J!! I hope she did famously – and have no doubt but that she did. And if she crashed (as we all do in the dramatic arts), just tell her for me that I have hair-raising stories about forgetting Shakespearean couplets in the middle of scenes when I was the only actor “awake” – and had to save myself by making words UP.
Pabla. Isn’t it so with all our children? My Chaz is like Pabla – a little quirkier in her own way, but still deeply endearing – or maybe because of it deeply so. And you hope that the world will be kind to her, innocent and open as she is – kinder, in many cases, than it was to us, ourselves.
And here is the last conclusion: how would it be God, the father of us all – us all in our strange ear-sets and styles and hearts and brains. Can he feel any less anxious about the world being kind to us? And yet, we are the world.
I can’t think too deeply too often about these things, or my heart fails me, breaking. So I just try to be merciful myself – even though I’m an angry little hands-on-hips bit, moi. I have so much to write to you – but it’s been another crash course month and we’re driving off to Santa Fe tomorrow. Hoping we don’t run into bad drivers – or moose –

I do love your plushies! They are all incredibly adorable, and I hope that I might snag one if the opportunity rises. They are such a large batch, but I’m sure they will sell out in a heartbeat.
Bless you, Julie! I look forward to seeing more of your posts, and good luck to Amy in her drama group!

  28. Julie, all your animals are adorable! I’ve followed your blog for ages now – in fact it got me knitting again. Please could you add me to your mailing list. I would love to have one of your animals for my new baby – especially as I can’t knit for now – due to ongoing carpal tunnel syndrome. (Grgh!!)

  29. Hi Julie – Just gorgeous as always. Will have to study them closely to see which would really steal my heart!! I notice people are asking if you will ever sell a design for at least one of these delightful creatures. Would buy one at the drop of a hat as it would be wonderful to try my hand. Having knitted several of your Easter egg cosies it would be a kind of progression!!! Please keep delighting us with your creations. Happy summertime to you all. JennyH.

  30. Oh Lordy, I shouldn’t have looked. Elissa is beyond adorable. My daugher is called Elsa and although too young to play with her I want her so badly for the nursery shelf! I hadn’t seen your elephants before and they are stunning. I agree with JennyH – if you ever feel able to part with the design for just one animal I would be over the moon. Do so enjoy reading your blog. Best wishes to you and the family. jude
