and a new haircut – Amy took the plunge and had 7 inches lopped off!

The main highlight though was watching Amy on stage in a musical that she performed with her theatre group. Seeing her up on stage singing, dancing and delivering her lines with such confidence made me all misty-eyed with pride.

All in all it's been one of the better school breaks – thanks to a holiday club that Toby enjoyed and which gave Amy and I three lovely days to spend together. And despite the fact that I'm still going to bed each night hoping that this night will be the first one of the year when Toby isn't awake for 3 or 4 hours, I am feeling more relaxed than I usually do after a school break!

  1. Looking at those lovely photos make me wonder why I live in this windy, cold country of mine. Spring and strawberries, yummy 🙂
Glad you had good times during the holidays.

  2. So happy to hear you had a nice Easter break. I cannot imagine being up 3-4 hours every night. You truly are an angel. The berries look yummy. Glad the musical went so well and you are so proud of Amy. That is wonderful.

I love Amy’s new hair style and congratulations to her on her theatre performance. Lovely too that you were able to have some quality mother/daughter time.

  4. Lovely, lovely, lovely. I have decided to live YOUR spring, because I don’t think we’re getting one. I want to smell those blossoms. And hurrahs for three days with Amy. Her hair is very grown-up looking, a beautiful cut. And I can see I’m going to have to start actually bargaining with heaven – hmmm. What have I got to barter with?

  5. I love that crocheted afghan peeking out of your bag. In fact I love it so much that I must confess that I ordered all the same colorways of yarn you are using and am making my own!
    Your Easter holiday sounded lovely!

  6. I shall show Amy’s haircut to my two in the hope they’ll agree to at least have a trim now and again!
I’m glad your Easter was so good – ours has been wonderful too. We’ve had an inset day today and I am not really looking forward to back to school tomorrow. Still, only 2 days this week!

  7. Wonderful photos of magical moments. Love Amy’s new hair style – I’m sure she won’t regret taking the plunge. And fingers crossed that that first night of uninterrupted sleep is not too far away …

  8. Lovely crochet, I wish I could do it – I keep looking for a class near me. Not having a proper night’s sleep is awful, people who haven’t experienced it don’t realise how bad it can be. It takes it’s toll on your overall health. When things are bad I always console myself with these words “this too shall pass” – it’s true, even though it may not feel like that.

  9. Glad your Easter break went well. My 5 year old grand-daughter went to a Stagecoach workshop for four days this holiday, and loved it! They put on a little play at the end, which was so lovely to watch

  10. It takes some getting used to when they get their haircut doesn’t it? Pr.C-W had about a foot taken off just before Easter and I love it!
So pleased to hear your holiday was a break for all of you. There really is something special in that one on one time when it happens.
Shall cross my fingers for you for the nights to be sleep-filled for everyone in your house.

  12. What a wonderful post.
Tell Amy her hair looks fantastic – makes her look so chic!
I too had a wonderful Easter – all things considered. Even though our lives have difficulties – it is such a blessing to be able to enjoy the beautiful bits that sneak in and give us hope.

  13. Wow! Seven inches! That is some hair!
Toby’s cute little toes. I bet he just thrives in the water. Levi does. The boy is drawn to water like I am to chocolate! 😀
I keep hoping we’re going to have some spring here. Yesterday TWICE we had snow coming horizontal. My tulips are afraid to open up!
I think perhaps Spring is too busy having fun in your neck of the woods and has forgotten to come and play in ours……

  14. Hi Julie
Really like the crochet blankets. I am a knitter but not good with crochets. I have seen the original pattern on Ravelry but I dont think the instructions were that clear. Would it be possible for you to explain how the granny square like circle is done? would really appreciate it.

  15. Hi Julie,
Your blanket looks fantastic. I have copied yours and Solveig’s pattern, been on to moonstiches, but can’t for the life of me join them together. I have 33 lovely rounds ready to go, but am stuck! Holiday pics are lovely, by the way.

  17. How you manage to cope on rubbish sleep is beyond me. Your family is so fortunate to have you, especially your son. What luck that you are his mum.

  18. Julie – I’m so glad you ignored the “professional”
advice and took the more flexible route regarding
Toby’s nights….I have learned through dealing
with my son that mother truly does know best….
My prayers are with you that this will continue
to get all of you a better night’s sleep….
Your crocheting is lovely – I just love your sense
    of color!!!! Blessings….Barbara
