Dawn

One of the things I like about this time of year is that you don't have to get up at the crack of dawn to get up at the crack of dawn, if you get my meaning.

Sunrise3
Sunrise at this time of year is at a civilised hour and there's no nicer way to start the day than with a cup of tea in bed watching a glorious sky. It sets you up nicely for the day – especially when you've been up for 4 hours in the night because a certain young man finds sleep a challenging concept these days!

  1. I love mornings. My fav time of the day when I do most of my thinking and planning. Beautiful photo. Hope the little man settles back into a better sleeping pattern soon for you.

  2. I know exactly what you mean and even though I’m a morning person who enjoys getting up at dawn in the summer months… I like the lie in at this time of year. Hope Toby’s sleep pattern settles soon. Jacob still doesn’t sleep much but at least he is old enough to not require my attention in the middle of the night. (we did have to persuade him that playing guitar wasn’t such a great idea in the early hours though!)

  3. That’s such a beautiful photo! I love it when people manage to capture a fragment of life in one click.
As for Toby he clearly wants to live life rather than dream about it… I think I should take a leaf out of his book!

  4. Hmmm. I do believe you’ve just given me a gift. I hadn’t seen it this way – but you’re right. How interesting. How morning changing. Sorry about the night. Evidently mothers are not supposed to get comfortable sleeping at any age. Oh, Toby. I was up last night, too, worrying and tossing and turning. If we’d have been down the street I could have looked after him instead of playing Sudoku by myself.

  5. Ugh, hope you have more sleep tonight.
Tea in bed sounds like a wonderful concept. Might suggest that to the other half – or perhaps we should buy a teasmade!
I do remember when Tall Small was a baby I would make a flask of Horlicks to take to bed with me so that when she inevitably woke me for the third or fourth time I could have a milky drink to try to get back to sleep. I’d forgotten that till just now!

  6. Why is it that I enjoy getting up early at weekends and watching the sun come up but just can’t drag myself out of bed during the week when I really DO have to get up?
I do hope Toby finds his sleep pattern again soon.

  7. I tend to get more lie ins at this time of year as I don’t feel so guilty staying in bed while it’s still dark. Sorry to hear about your broken nights sleep though, I know it can be exhausting.

  8. Oh gosh – I do hope Toby gets back into a sleeping routine soon. It’s hard being up in the night as every minute seems to feel like an hour. I hope you are able to get a little rest today. I missed the sunrise this morning – I think it happened somewhere between feeding Little Man and expressing (not something I want to share with my neighbours so it’s a strictly curtains closed arrangement!) so thanks for sharing yours! A very lovely picture.

  9. I hope that Toby soon settles into a better sleeping pattern. Maybe, once the normal school routine has been established for a few weeks, he’ll improve. (then it will be half-term!)
Your sunrise picture is so beautiful. I miss it on the days I’m teaching, as I’m there for 7.45. I’m looking forward to driving there in daylight!

  10. What a beautiful picture and such a gift after a bad night. I hope Toby settles again and you get to sleep through and miss the sunset!
I always thought broken nights were hard when they were babies but somehow it seems much harder when they’re older. Possibly because we’ve become used to actually getting some sleep again!

  11. not sure that the sun came up in Scotland last week, every day was grey and gloomy. Glad you had some sun even if you might have prefered some sleep.
Toby may be having a growth spurt. hope he gets back to his routing soon, or develops a new one at any rate.

  12. Poor you hope you get some more sleep soon -we have sadly not been enjoying the sunrises as have been waking well before sun up – I find this aspect of winter very difficult as some days I never see daylight.
    Take care.
