…is worth two in the bush" as the saying goes. But I've already got 2 birds in my hands today because I've finished the mittens and I'm chuffed to bits with them.
Knitting the Madeline Tosh Vintage yarn on 2.5mm needles really makes them thick and warm and the gorgeous tonal range of the yarn really does Kate's beautiful pattern justice. I love the secret little bird on the inside of each thumb and the design seems fairytale like, so it seemed appropriate to take them into the woods for their first outing.
Though I did have to keep checking over my shoulder to make sure Mr Wolf wasn't sidling up behind me through the trees!
It's a really lovely pattern and I'd definitely recommend it. If you're put off by knitting in the round or by the estonian braids then take a look at my ravelry page for some cheats and tips.

PS: I had an email from a dear friend with a request:
If it's a cause that has resonance for you please take a moment to sign the petition – you can visit their website too which details the history of Madeleine's disappearance three and a half years ago. Thanks x
They’re gorgeous Julie and I would think extremely cosy too! 🙂

Julie those mittens are divine…..and I love the little bird on the thumb (first glance I thought it was a rabbit 🙂 )
I will pop over and sign for Madeline, your friends must suffer so much not knowing. We have just had A Day for Daniel in Australia and we were encouraged to wear red for Daniel, his parents are in the same situation. So hard for everyone. Thanks for sharing.

It’s heartbreaking that there’s still no news of Madeleine. I have signed the petition.

Love the mittens, Julie. I’m so sad that Madeleine has faded from people’s memories, it must be reviewed.

Hi Julie, Your knitting is exquisite. The mittens will keep your hands as warm as toast. I haven’t knitted anything that patterned for a long while – but I may now be tempted.
Madeleine is always in my thoughts.

Beautiful mittens and in super fast time too! I think I might be persuaded to knit these too although I’ve promised myself a good sort out on my to-do list before then! It’s terribly sad for the McCann’s and I don’t think a loss such as theirs can ever be comprehended.

Those mittens are just adorable and a real work of art. I bet you’ll smile whenever you put them on!
Impossible to imagine what the McCanns have gone through both in terms of Madeleine’s diappearance and some of the press attention. My thoughts are with them.

I think of Madeliene often, and keep my yellow ribbon on my blog like you have at yours. I cannot begun to imagine how they cope.
Thank you for letting us know about the petition I shall follow the link.

Gorgeous was the word that came to my mind when I first saw those mittens…and I see others felt the same way! I’d love to be able to knit like you do one of these days! Finished my very first knitting class today and I’m signing up for the next session. Thanks for the inspiration!

Knitted mittens are beautifully done. Red and whites are a great match. This is a great Christmas present for friends. One of my mitts has been stuck in rabbit hutches for long. I’m sure I’ll gonna have a new one this holiday.

Hi Julie!
You are such a talented girl!
The mittens are amazing. Wow! I am impressed.
I love you work.
You are a strong loving mother. I read your blog for a while now.
My 6 year old girl has neurofibromatosis(NF1).
NF kids mostly deal with tumors. My sweetie does not have any. We pray that she never have one. For now we deal with her pseudoarthrosis,or a bone deformity on her leg. Bone deformity is one of the other signs of NF. She had surgery and wears a brace on her leg since she can remember. She has limitations on her play, like no run, no jump, no climb and so on.
It is very hard on her as you can imagine. She is a wonderful sweet little girl and we love her so much.
So, my heart goes to all mothers out there that need to be strong for their kids every day. May the Lord bless us all. And may the Lord bless all families that lost a child.
Love, Ana Paula.
