Why is it that mummies aren’t entitled to sick leave? Luckily for me I don’t get ill too often but when I do all I want is to take to my bed which (as I’m sure everyone else knows from personal experience) just isn’t possible when you’re a mum. Still, I’m rebelling and after getting the children off to school yesterday I put my jammies back on, made a cup of tea and spent the rest of the day in bed watching dvd’s of Northern Exposure and fiddling about with yarn.
I did have quite a productive day in bed – the headless bunny is headless no more, I’ve finished the first crochet cushion (cheating by just using it as a panel to reface an old, plain cream cushion) and I do feel a bit better. I reckon I need a few more lazy days with no housework in order to build up my strength ready for the school summer break – you’ll back me up won’t you?
……………………………………………………………………….
by the way – it’s only a summer cold – nothing serious! thanks x
Absolutely, definitely, totally!! Speaking as one who has been under par for some weeks now I am thinking of joining you (though obviously in my own bed!). Hmm, rambling added to the list too now…sigh x

AMEN! You can’t possibly function all summer long of you’re not fully rested 🙂 I hope you get your lazy days. I have loved reading about your forays into crochet, I learned when i was a wee young thing, then re-learnt 3 years ago, at the moment I’m working on an afghan for mum but I have cushions in mind for my caravan, so many things i want to do. Can I ask you how you change colour tho? do you have many ends to weave in? Thanks, sam xx

You deserve a little bit of ‘ me time’ as i like call it. Even if it is only when we are ill! Bunny looks so much sweeter with a head and the cushion is an array of lovely summer colours. Resting a poorly head on that will be sure to make you feel better. Take care x

The healing power of yarn is well known and in my opinion should be available on prescription. You carry on looking after yourself. You don’t want to slow down your healing by running around too early. You do need to be uber fit and healthy for the Summer.

Sorry to hear you’ve been crook. Hope you are feeling better soon. Every mum deserves a break when not well. You were able to amuse yourself productively…well done. Much better on a cold, wet, frosty, windy day though…being all sug and warm tucked up in bed.
All the best to you and yours

Back you up?! I should think every woman in the world would back you on that one Julie! So glad it was nothing serious and that you feel better. Incidentally, you’re more productive when under par than I am when 100%! Stay well.

What a beautiful cushion! Sometimes crochet in general or granny squares specifically turn me off a bit because of the garish color combinations some people use, but your projects are simply lovely! I like how the white ties everything together.

The cushion is lovely, my little parcel will be with you soon I have been so busy lately getting the pre-school filled up again for September that I have hardly had time to pick up the needles – roll on the summer hols!!
I did however manage to pick up some half-price Rowan wool in the John Lewis sale – I do love a bargain!

A day in bed is definitely the best thing for a cold – it’ll be gone much quicker. If more people followed your example instead of struggling on and infecting others, the common cold would soon be eradicated. Hope you’re feeling better very soon.

You bet your sweet buttons, I’ll back you up. Sometimes a mommy needs to shape the whole world with her hands in order to make a space for what she needs. A joyful dip into sweet indulgence and rest
– like swimming in a cool pool in the middle of hot bedlam. I haven’t written a creative word in years – too many voices, literal and the voices of obligation – and I can’t hear my own rhythm. So you find your rhythm today. And close your eyes and sink into your pillow and float, dear girl. Bless you.

Only a summer cold? They’re the very very worst! Rest is essential, as are lots of cups of tea/coffe and delicate glasses of delicious things to drink, and of course chocolate cake with lovely chocolate ganache in the middle… as soon as the taste buds permit. Be kind to yourself. and feel better soon!

Hi Julie – Hope you are now feeling better – but, if not, then you certainly deserve to stay in bed, or out in the sunshine, whichever feels more comfortable. Pity you can’t store extra energy to use whenever you have the looong school hols to cope with. But at least the rest of us are enjoying your creativity so that might help you to feel better?!?!? Do take care and let your littles help when they can. JenyH.

Hello,
I so enjoy your website. Love your photographs and your patterns. I was wondering if I could use your mini Christmas Stocking pattern to teach a class at my local yarn shop. I will credit your patterns when ever possible and will encourage my students to go to your website. I was also wondering if I could use photos from your website to advertise the class. You can visit the my local yarn store website at http://www.villageyarnandtea.com
Thanks for considering this. I look forward to hearing from you.
