hooray for february

I'm sure I'm not the only one who is glad to see the end of dreary old January! February always seems to usher in brighter days – today being one of them, with the first blue sky we've seen in weeks. The promise of the first spring flowers, the planning of the veg garden for this year and a little bunny cosy knitting in preparation for Easter are all making me happy at the moment!

True, I have stalled a little on the shalom cardi (those big chunky needles are really making my thumbs ache); I'm still way behind in catching up with emails; Toby still isn't sleeping through the night (although he is much better – thanks so much for all of your good wishes) and the housework has been neglected lately but who cares? The sun is shining and spring is around the corner!

  1. I’m always so glad to get rid of January, and today bodes well with – the sun’s already disposed of the small fall of snow and overniht frost. Love the little bowl of bunnies, I must get out my pattern from last year whilst there’s still plenty of time before Easter. Ignoring the dust the sun shows up, of course!

  2. Rabbit, rabbit!! Supposedly, if the first thing you say on the first of the month is rabbit, rabbit, you’ll have good luck for the duration of the month. How appropriate! I’ll have to pull out my cosie pattern as well and start some Easter bunnies. Enjoy the day.

  9. Our February didn’t start the best way. Snow, everywhere, and it’s carried on falling all day. I love looking at the snow from indoors under a duvet with a hot chocolate in hand but this trek to work is too much in this weather. I hope our weather follows suit and we get some lovely sunshine again.
I love your bunnies, definately some of the cutest I’ve seen!

  10. Those bunnies are edible! I can see I’m going to have to retrieve your pattern and make some more …
So glad Toby is much better and that you’re feeling happier. I keep listening to the birds singing and telling myself that spring must be nigh – but we woke up to yet more snow today and I couln’t help but sigh. But it will come and it will be glorous when it does!

  11. Hello Julie, I love a bowl full of little bunnies, they really cheered me up. We are having another cold spell in Japan right now though, it’s officially spring according to the old agricultural Japanese calendar. By the way there seems a delay in the mailing service and I have not got my 7 days specialness package yet, but you go ahead and open yours 🙂 Ali didn’t say we have to open at the same time, did she? I hope your boy will feel better and sleep the night through. Take care. Chloe Patricia

  12. It made me laugh when you said that the big needles hurt your hands. I love the bigger needles. Little needles hurt my wrists!
Oh how I wish spring was around the corner here. But, alas, more snow is in the forecast for us later this week.

  13. Neglect is always a good strategy when it comes to housework. There are so many more important and valuable things to do with ones time than clean and sweep.

  14. Oh look at all your bunnies! The only ones here are dust bunnies …
Yesterday was freezing cold but bright and sunny, while today is warmer but dull. Better than January but I still could do with spring hurrying up!

  15. I’m not so sure about it being so good that February is now here; the weather seems to have turned more wet and windy where I am. However the prospect of planning my veges for the year excites me too and the shoots of smoe bulbs are cheering me up each time I look out of my kitchen window. I love your Easter rabbits, they are adorable and thank you so much for your wonderful blog.

  16. The brown one in the pink jumper….no….the little guy in the blue green stripe….no….Oh Julie! They’re all so bunny-licious! Beautiful!
Your weather must be on the turn. Our Summer is on the turn as well. The wind is whistling and the days are shortening. I can’t wait for Autumn….not so enthused about Winter though!

  17. not me, I love January and the positive energy that washes in with starting the year at Day 1 again. I think having a Feb birthday this week helps though ;o) In fact I have a theory that if you’re an autumn or winter baby you cope better with the gloom in the season in which you’re born. November gets the thumbs down in my book.

I am glad to hear Toby is on the mend and I have my fingers crossed his sleeping improves a bit so you can get some more rest! It is nice when you don’t have to worry about the housework too much.. it will always be there tomorrow! Enjoy the knitting, I say!

  21. Julie, your little cotton rabbit was sooo much fun to knit up!
I just have to say, thank you. I recently knitted my first-ever scarf, and two days prior to your rabbit pattern, I was learning to purl.
But, I saw the rabbit and HAD to try it. Well, I did. And through much trial and error, thanks to you, I have learned how to read certain abbreviations, moss stitch and stockinette; to name just a few. I can’t wait to try your little pin cushion pattern. Love your site.

  22. What a sweet image – all those little bunnies together – they look like they’re a synchronised swimming team all doing the backstroke (or is that just me seeing it?!). Thanks for the smile. Jen x
