my technicolour arm!

So, I was in the garden picking beans and the phone started to ring. I dashed across the wet grass, into the kitchen and as my wet gardening shoes hit the lino I took off and flew gracefully across the kitchen. Unfortunately my landing wasn't as graceful and involved a rather heavy up-close and personal encounter with the door frame. Luckily for me though my main knitting arm isn't broken, just rather sore and quite a spectacular colour!

Bruised

I won't be running in wet shoes again!

  1. OUCH! That looks painful! And thank goodness that valuable knitting arm wasn’t injured more severly! Didn’t your mother ever tell you “No running in the house!” lol

  2. Oooh that made me screw my face up and I just bet that arm’s throbbing now! I’ve had my share of floor skidding and found arnica seems to help with the bruise and pain. Need to keep that knitting arm moving, glad nothing was broken.xxx

  3. Poor you – that looks painful. Hope it gets better soon, and careful with wet shoes and lino – not a good combination – look after yourself, Lynne

  4. I can sympathise. I feel over on a gravel pavement last week and half pulled off my big toe nail and twisted the ankle on my other leg. Couldn’t walk for two days. Serves me right for rushing.

  5. Ouch from here too, and yes to arnica. Also, if very achey soak in a bath with a couple of handfuls of epsom salts, keeping your bruised arm under water for at least 20 mins. Then wrap up warm and go to bed.
    Hope you’re nicely healed soon!

  6. Oh, Julie, take care! Hope that’s one of those “looks worse than it really is” situations, but I’m afraid I’m just being optimistic… hope you’re back to 100% soon, just make sure that arm can still lift up a bar of chocolate and a cup of tea!

  7. Wow that’s the biggest bruise ever. Since I started knitting I’ve developed a totally irrational fear of hurting my arms.

  8. Ouch – looks painful – hope you are OK. Try Arnica cream – it works as I bruise very easily. I did a similar thing a couple of years ago.
    Just emailed you, Julie.

  9. Yowch! Capital “YOW”! I imagined a collective hissing as the internets sucked in their breath upon viewing…
So sorry to see that…a little witch hazel rubbed on with a cotton ball will help with the pain and discolouration…
    Hope it heals up soon…

  10. OOOH! How painful was that. Take care now, since you’ll probably be hitting it accidentally on any and everything around otherwise….That’s what always seems to happen. I Sympathize, Candi

  12. Oh no! That is one huge bruise! My doctor tells me that icing bruises helps them go away faster and allivates pain. Hope it goes away soon!

  15. I hope you are feeling better after your fall, what a colourful looking forearm. Here’s hoping it is not as painful as it looks.

  16. That’s a mighty fine bruise you got there! It reminds me of the time I did a solo riverdance with a not so graceful finale in the entrance to BHS – worn down crocs in the rain + shiny lino = my most embarrassing moment and a bruise on my hip just like yours! Ouch.

  17. OUCH! that looks mighty sore. Remember to rest. Elevating the arm would help too. Would be fun to take pictures over the next weeks as the colour changes – and how it will move with gravity. Once a nurse, always a nurse 😉

  18. I thought the bruise on my arm was bad but not now I’ve seen yours! If you ever sell the pattern for gracie, count me in, she is really lovely and it would be great to knit her for my cousin’s little girl.

  19. Oh no…..but at least you have a fantastic bruise – evidence of all of that pain…..I took a tumble down the farm track last year and winded myself, hurt all over and not a bruise to show for it…lol. Hope it feels better soon and the knitting isn’t too hampered. Linda 🙂

  20. I too believe in Arnica cream and tablets, or comfrey lotion is also very good. I hope you feel better soon Julie. Take care.

  21. ditto on the OUCH!
& also on ‘arnica in & arnica ON!!’ Another thing I found SO helpful when I slipped on wet wood by a hot tub years ago – clay packs! I used green clay which I wet with comfrey tea – it took the pain away each time I put it on! You can soak in the epsom salts, smear on some arnica cream, & slather with a layer of clay!!
    Gentle hugs

  22. Oh no Julie – it looks so sore! Those shoes weren’t Crocs by any chance were they? Crocs + wet floor = lethal!!
If it’s any consolation I’m having to knit through the pain too, as I’ve pulled a muscle in my right shoulder 😦

  23. Wow that’s a doosie! I’ll bet it got blacker and bluer and the week went on. So sorry about that…maybe that means you didn’t have to cook supper that night! Ha! Btw, do you have a pattern for the feet on your animals…I cannot get mine to look right for the life of me.
Hope you’re feeling better and not too stifff,

That sounds exactly like the kind of thing i would do! I hope your arm is getting better now and the rainbow colours are slowly disappearing. I definitely back the recommendations for arnica!
