Well, here I am starting my 4th year of blogging. When I first started I didn't really think I'd keep it up for so long. I've made some lovely friends and met lots of wonderful people with creativity, imagination and integrity, sadly I've also encountered quite a few people without any of those qualities – but today let's not dwell on the negative side of having a blog. Today, I'm thinking happy thoughts and I want to say a big thank you to all those who visit here with good intentions and leave kind messages which make me laugh, smile or just feel good about the world in general – I really appreciate your visits. Hopefully my giveaway will make someone nice happy too.
Gracie is made from pure Cashmere yarn with an organic cotton dress and tights, she has a little friend in her pocket for company. To be in with a chance of winning her simply leave me a message below about anything that makes you happy and I'll draw a winner with the random number generator thingy on Thursday 17th september.
:: Comments are now closed, thanks ::
I'm back from the school run and am closing off comments now, having a cup of tea, then drawing the winner, back soon!
What a sweet rabbit. I love your blogs keep up the great work.

Oh Julie she is GORGEOUS! I love her little pink shoes – can I have some like that too please?
Actually, talking of shoes. Something that is making me happy at the moment is the brand new pair of red shoes that I have bought for starting my brand new job.
The interesting thing is that because I have such wide feet shoes don’t generally make me happy. Not at all. And I spend my life in my imitation crocs because they are the most comfortable footwear I have ever discovered.
But these new shoes are LOVELY!
And I have even bought a nearly matching red handbag too!
And I mean a PROPER handbag – not one of my usual (albeit very lovely) handmade fabric bags. A real, I’ve-got-a-grown-up-job kind of handbag!
Yay me!

Only another 8 weeks until our new baby arrives, and while I’m sitting here I’m knitting my first hedgehog! The pattern is perfect, thanks. Gracie looks beautiful, please enter us into the draw xo

Hi Julie,
What makes me happy is firstly managing to finally post a message as earlier I had to leave the computer to pick up my boys from school and secondly and most pathetically, completing my boring domesticated to-do list for today. Is it pathetic to feel happy about this? At least now I can have guilt-free knitting time later and that is worth the effort. Why do I feel the need to trade off one for the other? Anyways Gracie is delightful and would be most welcome in my male dominated household. Ali x

Great question! Hmmm…what makes me the most happy right now is what also makes me a teeny bit sad. I think you can relate to this feeling much more than most. You see, there is a dance that is played out between mothers and their teenaged daughters. And although I can seemingly do nothing right most days, there is a brief daily reprieve when I go to wake my daughter for school, where she will let me cuddle with her and hold her for just a few minutes. It is in those precious moments that I know we will make it through these turbulent years; I just have to be patient and wait for her on the other side. That is my blessing that makes me happy right now.

One thing that makes me very happy is that magical weather and sunshine combination that happens in October & November. The days have grown shorter so the sun sets much earlier than it did before…but for some reason it also seems to be much bigger and brighter and warmer…as though it is leaning in to kiss the earth. When the sun has made the world golden and it is also crisp – crisp enough for there to be coal fires burning…then I find bliss.

Today I had many reasons to be happy. It was the loveliest weather with sunshine, crispy wind and a hint of autumn – and hundreds of shades of green. The work that felt like impossible yesterday, went well today. The first thing my husband said when he woke up, was “you’de beautiful” (and I am not…) And my kids did NOT strike today. Or not much, anyway.

*the postman walking up the drive with a overstuffed envelope of yarn

I am very happy generally but epically happy today as my daughter (2 yrs) and I have been to the farm park with friends and had a wonderful time. She is sleeping now so I am about to sit outside in the sunshine and start a new book (The End of Mr Y) with a cuppa and a homemade cookie. Life doesn’t get much better.
Some people say small things amuse small minds but I disagree, if you take pleasures in the little things then there is so much more scope for joy in this world.

Another beautiful little creature, seeing these always makes me smile.
What makes me really happy is being at home and getting biffed in the face at 6.30 in the morning with “miaow miaow miaow, I want some company, wake up and play with me” the later in the day ‘furpedos’ bouncing around the room then both of them settling down for a cuddle (we were told we would never have lap cats – how wrong were they?)

It might be more accurately classified as “relief” but it’s a happy feeling, too. My 4 year old daughter (an only child and my reason for being a stay at home mom) is adjusting slowly but SURELY to preschool. She’s so resistant to change and nervous around new people and is so happy and content in her own, quiet, familiar home – but I know that this is a necessary step for her to become a well-adjusted individual.
She’s slowly learning that it’s okay to let other grownups help her, that it’s safe to experience new things…you get the picture.
I could really ramble about this all day. Thanks for creating such sweet things and sharing them with the world!

It was you that sucked me in to the amazing blogging world and all it’s friendship and inspiration!(Aswell as the ner-do-wells but like you said lets not dwell on them!!)

Hi Julie. My six year old son has Aspergers. In the time before he actually started at his school, for autistic children.Rather than friends offering us hospitality around their own ‘normal’ children, I was bombarded with suggestions and names of people said to be ‘in the same position as us’.Even though I felt terribly alone, I just couldn’t cope with the identifying.I wanted Reuben to retain his specialness…if that makes sense? I thought it would be like joining a help group, where everone would be sad and frazzled. And I felt pitied. My oldest friend mentioned this blog more than a couple of years ago and I ignored her; until today. The sunshine has been beautiful and I’m looking forward to the Autumn. Thank you for your blog; I really enjoy its optemism without being unrealistic or patronising.Parents like us so need to keep our own creativity;Your work is enchanting, and your productivity is incredible… a sense of humour(whenever possible!)which you share. Here is a feeling of not being alone which makes me want to express myself too.. So thank you! Abigail

Approximately a year ago I’ve seen your amazing animals at the first time. I’ve fall in love with them since that. Time from time someone of my friends send me the link to your album on flikr or at etsy, knowing my passion to thread critters. I myself also create animals, but my creatures are mostly tiny and mini. My best wishes for your blog and lot of love for you! I’d be honored to get such a cute bunny, in case I could win.

Hi Julie! It has been a while since I have left a comment on your blog but I would be mad not to, today, as Gracie is so cute! Her little shoes remind me of Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz. A huge CONGRATULATIONS from here in Australia on your 4th year of blogging. What an achievement (and dedication!) So, what makes me happy, you might be wondering??? Well, apart from cake, coffee and craft, the thing that makes me MOST happy is when I hear my four kids laughing hysterically when they are playing together. Doesn’t happen a lot as they are 15, 13, 8 and 2 but it is music to my ears when it does! Hope you and the family are all well! Take care! XX

One thing that is about to make me very happy is the Great North Run – it’s a half marathon (13.1 miles), it’s happening a week from today and I’m taking part in it. At the moment what’s making me happiest is fresh air from the window in my new office (the previous one had no windows and indeed to access to outside air so its a blissful relief to have a nice breeze blowing through the place).

My children make me happy every day. Picking my son up from University makes me so happy. I long for the days when he comes home and chaos hits the house again.
He started University a long way from home last October and when he came home for Christmas I wondered what changes I would see. Since a little boy on Christmas Eve he has always put his stocking on his bedroom door handle, and last year when I was eventually getting to bed my heart melted when I saw he had still put his stocking out. He is only 19 after all!!! Jx
