homegrown dinner

Yesterday we had our first complete homegrown roast dinner (well, apart from the chicken – we've not yet despatched one of our ladies, although Chic Chick may well be heading that way if she keeps waking us up with her rooster impression each morning!)

Roast dinner

All the veggies though have been homegrown and were picked, pulled and dug before being quickly washed, briefly cooked and eaten hungrily with great enjoyment. I'm really loving being a veggie grower!

  1. Ooh these look so yummy J, and so natural. The best thing about home grown is the taste isnt it,its so much better,( esp carrots and tomatoes i find) followed by the vibrant color and imagine all the extra vitamins and minerals as they’re picked and eaten so fast. This post has reminded me just how lucky i am that my dad has an allotment and grows things like this too. hi to L,love to all Kat xx

  2. Gorgeous veggies! Have mercy on the chicken though…she’s probably got theatrical tendencies and may be a star one day!

  3. That looks like a super crop of veggies. I’m really enjoying growing mine this year although I’m getting just a little tired of the courgettes!

  4. Your veg looks great! I’m especially envious of the carrots, mine are refusing to grow at the moment. It feels good when you do manage to grow a whole dinner, doesn’t it?! Look forward to seeing more veg pics.

  6. I love gardening also. Last night we had fingerling potatoes and cucumbers from our garden. They can’t be beat.

  7. oh you can’t beat home grown vegetables. My Dad grows all of ours and you can’t beat the first crop of new potatoes. Just addictive…and new carrots simply divine! I had my own strawberries this year, and also green beans and lettuces which my Dad kindly planted. We are making our way through dad’s runner beans and I can’t wait for the beetroot, my favourite. We had some Victoris plums from a neighbour and just have to wait a few more weeks (hopefully days) for the greengages….then the winter crop will be here!!

  9. They look lovely and I’m sure they tasted even more delicious. I think it’s great when the children have been involved in growing the veg and then eating it…it makes them realise where they come from, that they grow in soil and aren’t just bought magically wrapped in plastic from the supermarket!

  10. It all looks delicious Julie. My Mum used to keep me supplied with fresh veggies from her allotment ~ how I miss that freshly dug flavour.

  11. I love growing vegetables too although find it a little challenging as I only have a small courtyard so everything has to be in pots.
