potatoes

Over the weekend we dug up the first of our potato bags. It seems however that we were a bit previous, for although there are over 50 potatoes in there, most are the size of peas! I s'pose that's what you get for being impatient!

Potatoes

Still, we have another 8 bags still growing so fingers crossed for bigger ones in a month or so.

  1. We sometimes grow potatoes in buckets then you can pull the plant out, take off what you need and put it back.it works very well.We had our first pots yesterday and they were delicious. We are also growing runner beans but I only put the seeds in 3 weeks ago but they are racing away.Hope I havn’t left it too late but we were away.

  2. It’s so hard not to dig them up too soon isn’t it? I’m the same with seeds – always needing to have a little poke around in the soil to see if they have started germinating!!!

  3. I see they are Kipflers, my fave, I keep re-planting my tiny leftovers, and havn’t bought new ones to plant for 3 years now. Also have lots of surprise plants that turn up here and there when I put my compost down.

  4. Are they earlies or second earlies? I have my second earlies in, but leaving it a while until I dig a few up 🙂 Last year I got a huge crop in August – September 🙂

  5. If Toby and Amy are anything like me and my brother were, they will fight over getting the smallest ones for their dinner! I still always want the tiniest ones… and I am 39 now!

  6. Hi
I have had your cupcake pattern for almost a year now, but haven’t had time to even consider making them. I have finally looked at the pattern and intend to make them soon, however, I haven’t been able to find the wool needed anywhere! I wondered if you could help with some websites where I can get the wool I need!
    Thank you

  8. Small they may be, but I bet they taste out of this world! You are becoming a gardening star, and I am completely envious of the results in the best way possible.

  9. Mmmmm…I was all set to unearth our first potatoes this weekend but I may wait a bit longer! I did find one little tiny one the other day and convinced myself the others would be bigger…not so sure now!

  10. I seem to lead a similar sort of life to you. Am a stop at home mum who loves knitting – don’t know when you get the time – my life is taken over keeping house garden, looking after children and husband shopping, cleaning cars, etc and when I do get the time to sit down and knit I’m shattered. Have also tried a veg patch for the first time this year – potatoes and pease were the best things for us. Really enjoy all your lovely knitting and Gracie is abolutely gorgeous – always buy your knitting patterns when you put them on Etsy. Will have a go at designing a creature of my own one day. Thanks for the inspiration. Susan Shaw
