Over the weekend Toby had a bit of a melt down that resulted in him knocking off my glasses and snapping the frame. I’m really shortsighted so while my husband was doing his best to fix them temporarily with the superglue I had to resort to wearing a very old pair (I only get around to changing them around once a decade!)
You should have seen Toby’s face – the biggest scowl you ever did see! Then he made a lunge for them and pulled them off my face in disgust. It seems he’s not overly impressed by my changed appearance. I’m off to the optician later in the hope of getting a very similar pair – either that or it will be a very gradual de-sensitising operation to get him to accept a new look for me!
Oh, that does sound like a hassle you didn’t need! Good luck finding some more – are you sure you don’t fancy the Jack Duckworth sellotape look?

I laughed when I saw the Harry Potter Oculus Reparo title as Miss E has basically become Hermione Granger and was waving a pencil at me saying that very spell when I read the title, how bizarre!!! I too only replace my glasses every decade or so, we always put ourselves last I s’pose! Hope all will be well again soon. Love Salx

Julie, you’re my specs twin!! I’ve had the same top two pairs (and am also blind as a bat without them).

I simply love your round pair at the bottom. If you ever want to get rid of them or recycle them, I would love to buy them. I cannot find that frame anywhere around here. I am going to have them transformed into sunglasses. I have looked high and low for some quality ones even online and all I can ever find are the huge round Ozzy Ozbourne glasses. Not my look.
Great blog and posts. Very funny.

What a nuisance! I once sewed my glasses together and wore them like that for ages! I couldn’t see that there was a problem!!!!

Oh dear! I hope you’re able to find something that works. I have the same problem and am lost without my eyeglasses. I had to wear my old ones at some point recently and wow, was it a flashback to another era! 🙂 Good luck with your search. 🙂

Much sympathy! Just tried (and failed) to persuade the optician that she really could fit a new prescription into a much loved but battered pair of old frames! Goood luck with the search! Jenni x

Oh no!
My glasses get so much stick I’ve ended up with one of those thin and flexible pairs. They seem to be standing up to the abuse quite well one year in.
My 5 year old can’t look at me when I’ve had a haircut. It takes him all day to actually face in my direction, sometimes. He doesn’t care with anyone else, but reacts quite strongly to such a change in me.

What, no contact lenses?! I find I hardly wear mine now I’m knitting again – specs are so useful as you can move them up and down your nose to get the perfect view of your work (a bit like playing a trombone on your nose!) I’m another of the group that only updates their specs once a decade (or more) – and even then I choose the wrong ones!

Funny story. It’s sweet what a comfort you must be for Toby – to just be yourself. Hope you had success getting a new pair.

What a good way to get new specs! Not the whacking by Toby but the breaking bit and I do think you need a wee update and I look forward to seeing the end result. As a spec wearer since I was 11 years old I am very concious of peoples glasses!

I have found it so hard to choose new prescription sunglasses that the pair I use are at least 5 years behind! Since I mostly use them for driving I’m not sure I’m even legal! HAHA! Too much choice – that’s the problem! My boy recently told me they are old lady spectacles and I can’t wear them at the same time as my teenage girl trainers! Clearly I am a sartorial disaster! t.xx

What a story, all very distressing for everyone, but I know you will look back on this with affection, but maybe only when you have your new look and you have been accepted.

I recently got new glasses, and our 4yr old gives me such a funny look when I wear them instead of those which she’s seen me in since she was born. Such a creature of habit!
I posted the other day about the teeny tiny rabbits + bears I knitted from your pattern: http://woolnest.blogspot.com/2009/05/may-miscellany.html
Thank you for the sweet pattern, my children loved receiving them!

I found some old glasses while I was cleaning out some drawers in my dresser. I laughed so loud, thinking what possessed me to ever wear those things.
