A wonderful development!

I've just received in the post a letter from the company I had contacted regarding copies of my Rosie Cosie! I'm thrilled to bits to get a response to my letter and to know that they are taking the matter seriously and looking into it.

Have a great weekend all!

  1. What great news – I only just came across your original post from my Bloglines, and was horrified to read it. I stopped shopping at the shop concerned due to their appalling business practices. I really hope you find a way through this. Little people who truly care for their products must stand up against the bullies who think because of their size they are free to do whatever they please.

  2. That’s great news! It’s so good that your voice is being heard and action is being taken.
Best of luck, lots of strength and hooray for standing up for your rights as a crafter & entrepreneur.

  4. Congratulations! Been thinking about you since yesterdays antics, and hoping things would get better. Perhaps everyones positive thoughts and love have helped, remember how many people clearly care about you and what has happened! Good luck xxx

  5. Only just catching up with this news, but I’m aghast that it happened and glad that something seems to be moving towards perhaps making redress?
I don’t shop at the place anyway for other reasons, but certainly won’t be in the future!

  6. I hope they compensate you big time. It was a terrible thing to do. Just how many did they turn out and sell? They should be ashamed of themselves once again.

  7. Please God this is the shop in question actually listening to the little people!! On an aside I was shocked to hear one of the other mum’s at our toddler group saying to a friend who’s daughter I had knitted an egg cosy for, “she didn’t knit that she bought it at *****!!!” How very dare she!! Jelousy is a terrible thing!!
    Much love and best wishes!!

  8. That’s great news. Its a good example of why small businesses have to stand up to big companies, and not get walked over. Good for you, I hope you get the result you deserve.

  12. Hi Julie, I, like you am a knitter who’s trying to make some pocket money from my hobby – I have a shop on folksy with a friend of mine. Inspired by an egg cosy that I saw displayed in a large supermarket, I created my own for easter and put them onto my shop. I have since discovered your blog and your beautiful designs, and having read the above comments have guessed what has happened to you.
My pattern was different to yours and not nearly as beautiful but I have now taken my cosies off my shop page. It makes me feel slightly queasy to think that my inspiration came from something so underhand.

  13. This IS good news. Lets hope that” taking it” seriously means just that and that you are offered some decent compensation. If not we can still wreak the promised crafters/bloggers revenge!
    Best of luck x

  14. Great news, Julie – let’s hope for a more than fair (for you!) outcome. It will be interesting to see who actually made the cosies and whether they told the supermarket concerned that the design was their original work. In all fairness to this retailer (who I have found to be very good at dealing with complaints), they would have to rely on the integrity of their supplier which, in this case, was obviously sadly lacking. So hope your heart is feeling lighter now Julie.

  16. Julie, I missed the details of what happened but can guess that someone ripped off your sweet bunny pattern and claimed it for their own profit. You should know that I just love my copies of the Cosy and Cupcake patterns and guard them carefully (no copies!). I consider them to be gifts from a talented needle artist. Also, I say once again that you have been generous in sharing them. Your own magical fingers are what brings these lovelies to “life.”

  17. Have only just read your posts from the last week and can’t believe they’d do something like that. I’ve seen articles from Dutch magazines in English magazines, but always with a credit.
Here’s hoping you get things resolved soon.

  18. They say that imitation is the biggest form of flattery, but its SUCH a bummer when it happens and unfortunately it happens waaay too much. 😦
Your work is beautiful and the imitation…not so much. I am so happy to read that there may be a resolution. 🙂
    Best wishes!

    Keep smiling and knitting

  22. I saw them too, in nasty acrylic but an obvious attempt at a copy. I don’t shop with them either, dating back to homes for votes scandal in the eighties and the heiress of the company.
I wish you lots of good luck, you go, girl!
