out of the groove

I can't seem to find my knitting groove! It always disappears over a school holiday when keeping the children entertained takes precedence over the quiet pleasures of a ball of wool but this week I've still not managed to get back into bunny knitting. It might have something to do with the state of my work basket…

Messy basket

… a tangle of limbs, ears, heads and other disembodied parts – in short a big mess (I am not one of the world's naturally tidy people). The trouble with working on a whim is that I forget where I got to on a particular animal and where I put the wool to finish off each one. I have some sorting out to do and then hopefully I'll be on track to finish off some new animals for the end of the month.

Enjoy your weekend and thanks for the chicken love on the previous post – I look forward to introducing the ladies to you soon!

  1. I am actually having the exact same problem at the moment. I just look at my half a dozen unfinished projects, and can’t bear to pick up the needles. So I am ignoring the problem, and am instead working on my sewing!! Hope you get back into your groove soon!! 🙂 x x

  2. I’m giggling my bum off looking at your basket of goodies. Oh and wanting one of everything that’s in there! Maybe that’s what happened when God made the platypus. He got his knitting basket in a knot and ended up having to use what he was left with to make something up! Maybe one of those pink piggies might end up being your first short necked, blush coloured giraffe! I’m off to giggle some more (I just spelt of as oof!)! Jen

  4. I do that with monkeys! I have a new, highly technical method. The socks and any body parts that ‘go together’ get put in a plastic bag (any old bag – the ones you get on a roll from the supermarket) together, and the top gets knotted. I lost way too many ears … I’m determined not to lose any more!

  5. Oh I cannot wait to meet the ladies. Do they do ok in this cold weather? Thanks to you Julie, I have found my knitting groove now after about 25 years, and I am having so much fun with it. Thank you.

  6. At least your work basket has completed parts it it and not just balls of wool and patterns waiting to get going! I love the sorting out part and the finished result, but never seem to have time to actually knit anything… perhaps that should be one of my New Years resolutions… more knitting time!!! xx

  7. I’ve been thinking about chickens rather a lot since your last post. I’ve decided that my ideal chook would lay nice, foil-wrapped Cadbury’s Creme Eggs all year round =)
I’m sure you’ll find your knitting mojo shortly. I use (admittedly aesthetically displeasing) big ziploc plastic bags to store my projects and associated bits and bobs. Your mixed up bunnybasket is far more charming, though!

  8. Your knitting basket still looks like a thing of beauty to me though. Those tiny jumpers are divinely dinky. I’ve just started to knit, but am watching you works with interest and finding it very inspiring (although I doubt I’ll ever be that good)!

  10. It will come back into swing. I feel this way as well about home and school, but as soon as classes start, it all seems to fall into place – maybe that’s because it has to.

  15. Wow, just looking at the basket of bits and pieces makes me smile. I love that you are getting chickens. I wanted to do that about 10 years ago, but my husband didn’t. I’ll live vicariously through you and your blog.

i love some of your cards, the drawn ones with cats on especially, do they have to have the greeting on at all, as I was wanting to frame a few for my home?

  19. i feel just the same about not being in the groove but with me it’s drawing. Nothing is coming together at the moment and there’s piles of unfinished drawings lying about. maybe the cold weather has something to do with it.
I’m too embarressed to show the mess in my work room as it is truly disgusting!

  23. You know, during the holidays tends to be the only time I manage to indulge my knitting mojo because that’s when my hubby is home to help me with the children! During term time I get nothing done, ever 🙂

  27. It always takes me forever to sort out where I am if I put my knitting down and leave it for a bit. Once straightened out, I vow not put it down again without leaving a note attached telling exactly where I left off. Needless to say, that is hit and miss also. Beautiful chicken house. You will really enjoy your “ladies”.

  28. You will get your mojo back, Julie; I am sure! If your knitting basket is a mess, I would hate to see what tidy is, though! You should see all the stuff on our dining room table! Hee! Hee! (The bane of hubby’s existence!). It is hard to be creative during school holidays though – I feel like I am going around and around in circles and my cherubs are home for 2 months!

  30. Hi Julie,
while I’m waiting to get intruduced to my new colleagues (your coming chicken) I would like to tell you big news: as of today you can find an english version of my blog, if you like to visit and see what’s going on. You’ll have to click on the english flag on the right to have a translation (it is a Google made translation, so the quality is quote poor, but at least you can have an idea).
