Frequently asked Q’s

At times it is difficult for me to keep up with all the emails that I receive. So I’ve put together this page to try and answer some of the most frequently asked questions.

If you do wish to contact me please feel free to – I will do my best to get back to you although it might not be quickly!

……………………………………………………………………………………………………..

“Can I buy your patterns?”

Yes, you can find  the current range of patterns to buy here. and my entire range of patterns (including free ones) are all listed on Ravelry

Please note that the only official and valid locations that you can purchase or download my patterns from are here on this blog, Ravelry, Etsy and LoveCrafts. If you find my patterns available for download anywhere else please be advised that they will be pirated copies, taken without permission and supplied to you illegally, most likely with a side order of malware/ransomware. Please be careful out there and don’t fall victim to any other websites offering my patterns for free or in exchange for ‘tokens’

I will keep the blog updated with news as each new pattern is released.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………..

“Can I sell items that I make using your patterns?”

It’s absolutely fine for an individual to sell things made from my patterns for any kind of good cause or charity fundraising or for hobby selling*. As far as I am concerned that is personal use. (*ie. not a business/commercial enterprise where you are employing others to make items).

Here’s a link also to the official UK government position on copyright of knitting patterns:

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/copyright-notice-knitting-and-sewing-patterns

If you do make items to sell using my patterns it would be lovely if you could credit the source of the pattern with the words ‘made from a little cotton rabbits pattern’ or ‘made from a pattern by Julie Williams’ but please don’t label items that you sell as ‘Little Cotton Rabbits’.

Finally, please do not make replicas of my one-of-a-kind finished items, thank you.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………..

“Can I teach classes using your patterns?”

Yes, you may be able to (a least for physical face-to-face classes), but please be aware that there are copyright/usage terms that you need to comply with, so please contact me to discuss in person. I also like to keep a list of location and timings of classes being taught and will share this with anyone asking for extra help with my patterns.

Offering online tutorials/classes or making video tutorials of the pattern instructions is not permitted.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………..

“Where can I buy your finished knitted things?”

At the moment I sell my knitted things through Etsy. I add them in small batches when I’m able but this can be sporadic depending on how much time I have for making. The animals cost between £30 – £40 (not including postage) depending on the size, design and materials used. I can ship them overseas and take payment via paypal. I will also have occasional batch sales at my own little blog shop. If you’d like to be added to my advance email list and receive a notice before new items are listed for sale please fill out your details on the ‘subscribe to email list’ (link on the right).

……………………………………………………………………………………………………..

“Can I order one of your knitted animals?”

Because demand has exceeded the speed with which I make them I can no longer take on any orders. I also prefer to make each of my animals unique – it keeps it interesting and fun for me and I think it makes each one a little bit special. For now I’ll be adding them to my Etsy shop  and have a few occasional batch sales over on the blog.

** Not Toys **
All the finished items that I create are made from all new materials (merino wool, pure cotton, cashmere, silk and alpaca) in the finest branded yarns. The stuffing I use is a high grade carded polyester filling which conforms to British standards: cleanliness BS 1425 and fire safety BS 5852. It is a suitable component of articles requiring BS 5665 and the European standard EN71 and those required to carry the CE logo.

Please note however that although my finished knitted animals are made to a high standard they are intended as decorative and/or collectable items and are not intended as toys for children under the age of 14 years.

  4. Your little knitted animals are about the cutest things I’ve seen in the realm of knitted toys and I think I am officially sad, because I searched your whole site for patterns (in hope against hope that they’d be there) and then read in your “Q’s that you get asked a lot” that they are not available. Sniff I don’t usually buy patterns sticking to free, but I’d just about sell my eye teeth for these patterns so, in your understandably busy life as a mom to 2, I really do hope you’ll find some time to jot down the patterns for your cuties. What about selling the patterns as pdf files on Etsy or something like that? Just a thought. In the meantime, I guess I’ll just drool over your adorable creations and wish I was as an accomplished knitter as you are.

  5. Hello,
they are so cute, the toy animals you make! I like rabbits in real life, but the ones you make are really adorable.
I read about the auction you have for Rosie through the add at the Simply Knitting magazine website. Wrote a comment to it, also with the question asked if it were possible to buy a pattern. You got me curious for your web site, just to find out a few seconds ago you don’t sell any patterns. I’m sorry to have asked first, and finding out the answer later.
Could you please add me to your advance mailing list?
If you were to write a patternbook, that contains the pattern for the rabbit, I’ll be one of the first to buy it.
    Kind regards,

  14. Ack! I forgot about the bunnies for sale today…again! I just wanted to repeat what others have said already, that I would buy a pattern in a heartbeat, and pay a premium for it, too! Your work is so amazing. I’m also incredibly impressed that you find time to knit at all. I might try to knit some sort of ballerina bunny for my daughter, since she’s kind of obsessed with Angelie (okay, maybe she’s obsessed because I keep looking at it!), but I’m sure it will not end up looking anything like yours, sadly! Take care and knit on.

  43. Your site brought back memories of some of the pieces I knitted in times gone by. Some of the classics were an infamous pair of gold lame trousers that stretched inches beyond my feet the first time I wore them, a black, all-in-one catsuit that showed every bump and bubble, and a multi-coloured coat for my daughter to wear to university which stretched to her ankles. Coming across your site has inspired me to take up my knitting needles again, albeit with rather less flamboyant ideas. Please add me to your mailing list. Many thanks.

We would not be drawing sales away from your existing business, but would instead be complimenting your endeavours by purchasing your patterns. It would be wonderful to be able to purchase your designs either individually or as part of a book, if you have already sold the rights to them to a publisher.

Our knitters are very keen to knit for charity. I am trying to find a knitting pattern for a simple child’s jumper and I was wondering if you could help me out. We thought we would continue producing things for Operations Christmas Child for next year. The things you have produced on your website are absolutely georgeous.

  93. Julie, I was trying to make your cupcake decoration. I have a couple questions about the yarn you use. 4ply – do you use dk or finger weight. I went to the knitting store today to get some yarn and we were not sure what to use. Finger weight seemed like it was all baby colors. You also say to use a 1US needle. its so small so is the decoration very small? The pic. of the little girl wearing the decoration looks preety big – does not look like it was done on size 1 us needles. Do you have finished sizes. Im newer to knitting and so I need a little extra info/help 🙂
In your earlier notes you mention posting your patterns-Please do. Would love to make a couple bunnies and friends for my daughter.

  95. I love your site and knitted toys! I started knitting again last year (I haven’t done it since I was a child) and am loving making presents for family and friends. I just bought your patterns for cupcakes and bunny egg cosy and can’t wait to get started. (They are very well done by the way!) I live in Thailand, so it’s quite hard to get decent patterns here! I would love to buy a pattern to make a buuny or a monkey – they are so cute. If you have time to make a pattern to sell I will definitely snap it up like a shot. I know it’s busy – my brother has Aspergers and my sister teaches autistic children. Unfortunately here in Thailand, there is very little support for children with autism or other special needs, so it is great to see what you are doing and be able to access it via the net. Keep up the great work

  106. Hi Julie,
I absolutely love your blog and your knitting, you are a real inspiration, not to mention a real trooper! I have read your page about things you get asked alot and I have looked at your shop page. But I was wondering if you are in the process of selling anymore patterns? I am after the bunny rabbit pattern if at all possible. When I first saw your page, I fell in love with the big bunny on the right hand side of your home page photo (the one wearing the heart jumper). I have a new born nephew and I’d love to make it for him. I haven’t seen a similar pattern anywhere else.
Please let me know if and when you sell the pattern for the rabbit. Alternatively, if the rabbit is from a book pattern, would you be able to tell me where it’s from?
I’m not sure how to email you with my email address either….!!
    Many thanks in advance.

Two things, no, THREE actually, first and foremost: wow! you are an inspiration and clearly not only a talented lady but a wonderful personality and tower of strength too. The world needs more of your type. Secondly I’d like to add my shout to all those others saying you should write and sell a book of patterns, it would make your work ‘even more’ legendary out there in this beautiful planet. Thirdly, I run a large knit and crochet club in my area and I would like to seek your permission for me to put a link to your site and a photo of one of your bunnys onto my blog site, which is actually a blog site for my club.? I too would like to be added to your mailing list. Thank you for your creations and thanks to your mother & father who created and clearly nurtured such a wonderful lady.!!!!

  122. Hello Julie, I have to say that you have the most inspirational site that I’ve seen in a long time. Its truly lovely. I too have been knitting for a very long time since I was 7 years old and haven’t stopped ever since. I find it so relaxing and as you say it keeps one sane and takes you away from the things you may wish to leave behind sometimes, for awhile anyway. Last night, I knitted a bunny I designed myself and had to keep going until he was finished – 1.30am I finished him and he lay beside me in bed. My 3 children are an inspiration to me too who are all adorable. I bake and bake and bake and love good food and particularly enjoy cake making. Great idea about the holiday activities for the children, I tried to download the vouchers, it opens the page and nothings is displayed? I love your greenhouses, did you make them yourself? They look perfect for a smaller area and for children to access and have one each. Perhaps, you could let me know.
I love all your animals they are gorgeous, every year I stay up for hours towards christmas knitting something new for my children who I hope will treasure them forever.
A great read and lovely links.
I look forward to hearing from you.
    Warmest Wishes Denise

She loves knitted toys. No one makes them like the English and she would treasure one of yours. My other daughter would love a toy or cupcake. Son, too! Thanks for your free knitting patterns. Will try them and the little flower. I want to put that on top of the little knit hat I made the baby to come home from the hospital in. My expectant daughter finds four-leaf clovers in batches. She found about 20 last month and has done so with ease since she was a little girl. My daughters would so enjoy your sight. One wants to really knit now. Please add me to your list. Thanks for sharing. God bless you and your family.

My name is Pilar and I am a Spanish fan of your knitted creations. I will soon open a store in Madrid where clothes and decor for children will be sold. I had to find something special and I finally found it! I would like to decorate my store with your cotton cakes. In addition, I would like to sell your knitted work – that, I have to say, it is gorgeous – in my store.
I have seen in your blog that you supply your products to various outlets and I would like to know if you are interested in supply items to me. I suppose that as we are talking about handmade products, production is not very high but my store is small and I would like to offer just a small sample of your rabbits, elephants, etc. (above all rabbits as they are my favourite!!!!).
I do not want to take more minutes of your time. I really appreciate if you could send me an e-mail as I would like to know if we can reach an agreement. Your products will be sold to special clients on an exclusive basis (as your products deserve it!).
    Thanks in advance!

  167. Hello! Just discovered your site and your creations and would like to congratulate you for all the amazing things you create. Please add me – if possible – to your advance mailing list. I discovered your site as i was looking for ideas around the “egg” concept as in a few months i am about to proceed to the christening of my 20month daughter and her name will be “Avye” which in direct translation means “Dawn” but in Greece the word “avyo” means “egg”. My wish was to give away to guests an object that is, symbolizes or refers to the concept/word/object “egg”. Having read others’ comments i suspect that i have no chance ordering to you an amount of your easter eggs for that purpose, or have i? Ideally i would need a number around 150 but if it is totally impossible, do you think i could only have a few? (just for decoration, and to give one to my litte Avye?). I would really appreciate it if you could get back to me with any answer. Thanks again for the beautiful things i had the chance to be exposed to. Ariadne

  170. Dear Julie,
I was desperately looking for a knitted cupcake pattern so imagine my joy when I found your patterns and so much more on your blog.I have just returned to knitting after a very long gap and am so enjoying all the new ideas. I am coming to the UK to do some Care Work in June and am looking forward to meeting new people and to try out new wools and pattern ideas. I spent 13 years in Botswana where the weather was not conducive to knitting. While I was there as a teacher I taught a group of handicapped children. It was encouraging to read about your experiences and I am sure the parents of these children are grateful to be part of support groups. So knitting has taken a spot in my new adventure and phase of my life. I have also started a blog – breaking new ground for me. I would love to recieve any newsletters or articles you have to share.
    Thanks Tina.

I would love to have permission to paint your photo “Sunday Morning Happy Feet” because it is a compendium of my favorite things – socks, books, and soft cotton sheets. If you agree, please email me.

Also we noticed your raised beds and the frame work you have on top with the plastic which is pegged over. Did you make the framework yourselves or buy it? Sorry for so many questions!! look forward to hearing from you. Kind regards Michelle x

  186. Hi, I tried to get on your list before. I absolutely love bunnies per se, and yours are especially fine. In fact, I had hoped to buy the black one you had on show, but never saw any more about it. I know you must be very busy, in fact I don’t know how you do it. Bringing up my 4 children was a doddle compared to your situation, even though one of them had learning difficulties, and still needs help even at nearly 40. I love reading your blog, and how you get on with everything. I had to give up my blog – I just couldn’t fit everything, as I am now studying gardening and am a hands-on grandmother of 5, 4 of whom are 4 and under!
I knit lots too, but mostly shetland lace and garments.
I do hope I can go on your list and if your black bunny, or another one like it, ever comes up, I’m your woman! 😉
    very best wishes always, Ingrid

  202. Hello
My name is Sarah Gasson, I live in Cardiff with my husband Lee and two children and I am a fellow knitting designer. I mainly design toys, which can be viewed on my website http://www.knitables.co.uk. I hope you don’t mind me getting in touch but I just adore your designs and I am hoping that you may be interested in learning about my new website!
    So what’s it all about?
In October last year Lee and I entered a competition called ‘The Idea Tank’, a competition released by a large web design company called Caboodle Media. After a ‘Dragon’s Den’ style presentation we came second and now Caboodle are now turning our ‘idea’ into a fantastic website.
Our ‘idea’ is to build a unique, hobby based, community website called Hobby Buddies, which will be quite different to other hobby based websites which are currently online. The main differences are:
    1. Hobby Buddies will be FREE. There will be NO listing or commission fees for designers.
    2. Hobby Buddies will be very EASY to use and navigate.
    3. There will be a wide selection of features including forums, groups and wish lists, and patterns will be delivered AUTOMATICALLY.
    4. Initially our focus will be on KNITTING and then as the Hobby Buddies website develops we’ll introduce other hobbies, like crochet, sewing, embroidery, jewellery making, paper crafts, baking and even creative writing!
Supported by Caboodle Media, the website is being built by some of the best UK web developers and designers.
Lee and I are very excited and we can’t wait to get the website up and running. We do hope that you will want to include your patterns on Hobby Buddies and help us launch this fantastic website! Please remember that we will not be charging any listing or commission fees. It is totally FREE!
If you would like any further information please do not hesitate to contact me: sarah@knitables.co.uk
    Many thanks

  207. I add my request to be put on your advanced mailing list for the patterns for your bunnies. What an extraordinary talent you have with these toys. Their little personalities pop out at us. My mother was a toy maker using many different genre, and started with bunnies as well. I think she would be proud if I picked up the desire. I also have a daughter whose son has autistic tendencies, and want to tell you to continue doing what you can to help him because things will get better. Our Luke is doing very well in school, and is even in Cub Scouts with his twin brother. There are good days and not so good days, so we know what you face. Have courage. May the Lord bless you and your Toby.

I know and appreciate how busy you are, especially since my sister has an autistic son who is now 32. He now works at Walmart as they have a programme for people with special needs but I wish he could be employed somewhere where his intelligence could be tapped.

  218. Hi Julie
I run a charity called Amir Teddies and Friends, I make teddies and blankets for babies that are born too soon and are asleep or who fall to sleep shortly after birth, as my own grandson (Amir) was born asleep at 22 weeks. I make 2 blankets and 2 teddies both being identical and unique, one blanket and teddy is given to the baby and the other set is given to the parents to keep, this way they will always have something that is unique to their baby. I first made one of your teeny tiny teddies for my grandson and have continued making them for my local maternity hospital in Bristol. This is a charity and I make no money from this. I now am trying to recruit some more knitters and crocheters to help me and I would like to pass on your pattern to them, but as requested I am seeking your permission to use the free pattern to pass on. I do hope you will be ok with this.

My wife, Victoria, has dedicated and continues to dedicate most of her time to children with severe autism. She adores all the children but also appreciates the challanges they can present.

I love to knit and would love to knit up some of your patterns if you ever decide to post them for sale. I live in the U.S. and I don’t know the conversion from Pounds to Dollars. I will be back to your site the first bit of July to purchase the Hedggy pattern. I really have to sneak knitting for myself at the moment as I am knitting a 14 foot long Doctor Who scarf. If he wants another one he can learn to knit! lol
I also am knitting an entire Circus for this years Good Bears of The World Convention auction. Would love to hear from you, but understand that you are busy. I had a friend with a son with autism that I helped he out with on occasion before we moved away. They are a challenge, but Oh my what a blessing too. I have 2 boys with no problems and they are a challenge. Blessings.

I know you don’t accept custom orders, but is there any chance to make again (someday in the future :)) a sweet bunny with the style of “Amorette”. Her dress is perfect!!! Maybe with brown tights, so that it won’t be the same 🙂

  298. I absolutely LOVE your animals. I would really really like to buy one – can you add me to your list? I am a knitter too so I really appreciate all the work and love that goes into each one! I also understand how hard it is to write patterns. I have written several patterns (quilt, knitting, embroidery) for a small local shop – I would be honored to proof anything you write – if you need someone to do so. Thanks and all the best to you and your family in 2013!

She passed away June of 2012 at age 24 and I miss her dearly. I love to knit and it has brought me much peace and relaxation during some stressful days.

  302. Hi, Please would you add me to your advanced mailing list? It would be lovely to have a chance at bidding for one of your delightful creations. Not that you need any extra ideas, but have you thought about a lamb with short floppy ears and dungaree-shorts? My little boy has one (made by Moulin Roty I think – label long since sucked to oblivion) and he loves to hold ‘lamby’ by the dungaree straps – its size and style just makes me think of your lovely little animals. Anyhow, the bunnies are still the best! :o)

Please try in your busy schedule and release them so we can all make your creations. Despite feeling truly inspired by your bunnies I couldn’t find anything that came close. So heres still hoping.. Wishing you happiness.
