…but not exactly of the kind I had in mind!
I had to take Amy to have a tooth out at the end of last week. So we got to spend an hour together, just her and me – and the dentist! Poor kid had a cracked molar and developed an abcess. Still she was incredibly brave and over the weekend we did manage to make some time together to do something a bit more fun:
We played spas and had manicures, cucumber facials and massages – which was much closer to what I’d orginally had in mind!

Poor girl! I hope your spa day made her feel better after that dentist appt!

I’m not sure I could have been so brave…I hate the dentist!
She is simply adorable in that photo and her hair is GORGEOUS!
I wish I had long hair again. I cut mine short 5 years ago (thank you Meg Ryan) and have never been patient enough to let it grow back.

The picture of Amy reminds me of when my sister and I were young and we saw an episode of a sitcom (Robin’s Nest, I think) where Sally Thomsett (of Railway Children fame!) put cucumber slices over her eyes as part of her beauty routine. We decided to try it. I was fine, but my sister’s eyes reacted badly and became all puffy and blotchy and my mum was in a real tizzy!
I trust Amy had no such reaction, though, and emerged beautiful and dewy eyed?

Hello Julie
I have recently discovered your blog and love your work. I have just taken up knitting again though only doing very basic things at the moment.
I have really enjoyed reading all of your posts- I was originally a special needs teacher (now I am a teacher trainer) so really do appreciate all the joys and frustrations life with your son gives you.I am very impressed that you find the time to create all your wonderful creatures.
My major obsession is stitching and I have just created a blog of my own so if you drop by please leave a comment – it is at

Poor Amy, I hope she is feeling much better now. I think a visit to the dentist is in my very near future if I can get the bravery up. I’ve got a wisdom tooth that is giving me quite a bit of trouble…..

Going to the dentist is awful, she’s a tough kiddo. I have to take my son to the eye doctor tomorrow, and the drama has already begun tonight!

Ouch – poor Amy! I hope she isn’t now traumatized for life where the dentist is concerned.
Sounds like some great girlie time was spent afterwards though …. as long as you didn’t make her eat that cucumber … it’s green – yuck!
