I’ve begun to look forward to the start of term! I love all of the excitement and magic that comes along with christmas but now it’s all over the children are just restless and suffering from a bit of cabin fever. Keeping them both occupied is not that easy – they both have such different needs and poor old Toby just can’t bear being outside when it’s dreary, cold and wet. So it was lovely yesterday to have a change of scenery. Amy and I joined the others from her ballet school and headed into London to the Royal Opera House to see the Nutcracker.
It was wonderful! I have taken Amy to the ballet before but she was only 4 and she didn’t really appreciate sitting still for so long. Now that she’s a sophisticated 8 year old she found the whole
performance riveting and I think I spent as much time watching her face
as I spent watching the performance. To see her so entranced was a
really precious thing.
We didn’t get home til midnight so today we’re having a pyjama day and listening to a CD of Tchaikovsky’s music – all in all a good end to the christmas hols!

(okay, i just realized that my comments probably haven’t been posting – my fault!)
i’m SO jealous! and so is my daughter. we go to local nutcracker performances every year – but some are better than others. we ALWAYS watch our recording of the london ballet’s nutcracker, though (and you got it LIVE!). this year the boys really got into it – i think we’ll have to take thomas next year to a performance!

Sounds like a perfect day to be in PJs. We’re in the middle of a big storm –lots of wind and rain. My yard is now a LAKE! good day for sewing 🙂

Oh that’s my dream to go to the Royal Opera House. I love watching ballet and have seen The Nutcracker at Norwich’s Theatre Royal which was lovely but I bet the Royal Opera House takes some beating. You lucky things. Amy looks like she had a fantastic time.

My grandmother took me to see Nutcracker in Chicago when I was a girl. It was truly magical. What a fitting end to your holidays!

Oh how nice to see a performance of ballet. I am sure she loved it. Great way to spend a day in pj’s and doing just leisurely things.

I just stumbled upon your site and love your work. How cute! Any chance you’d do a tutorial, or give the pattern, for how to do the heart in the sweater the rabbit wears in your header? I’d love to be able to do something like that.

Wow. That sounds like a special night out. My daughter would adore that! We would have to travel too far to make it feasible over Xmas but one day! Santa put a Nutcracker and Swan LAke cds in her stocking…the kids tend to listen to classical music when they have breakfast before school..and yesterday she danced ALL the way there!
(they’re the kind that describe the music, story and what’s going on…

girls are so wonderful – I love my boys of course, but the mother/daughter thing is so special – mine is 22 and we still have these moments – though these days she is as likely to have set it up as I am!!
enjoy!

Ohhh to have a daughter…just lovely.
I made PJ’s for everyone this year including the in-laws! We layed around the house in them for 2 days during Christmas. I had to pull them off my husband to finally wash them!
Why can’t PJ’s be allowed out of the house? Just think how much more productive office workers would be if they could wear flannels all day!

Oh how wonderful! We thought about seeing the Nutcracker this year but I think my two are just a bit small yet. So we’re going to see Angelina Ballerina on stage in March instead – for some reason my husband declined the invitation to come with us …
