Update on my Mum

Thank you so much for all the good wishes for my mum. She’s in hospital and from the initial x-rays it appears that she has 3 fractured vertebrae in her kneck. We’re waiting on results of further scans. The good news is that she regained conciousness quickly and is alert, talking and can move all of her limbs. Considering she fell around 12 ft that’s pretty good going. I’ll write more when we have more details. Thanks again for all the good wishes – I’ll be passing them on to her.

  1. That is so good to hear! I really hope she is doing well. My mother also (coincidentally) just was thrown from her horse and broke three of her vertebrae a couple of weeks ago. One was crushed badly and the others broken. She was taken by helicopter from the field to the hospital, scary. It was horrifying in the beginning, but then I watched her begin to heal. The body is so amazing. She is walking around with her brace and I caught her doing all sorts of things she shouldn’t be, bad mother! She get’s tired when she does that stuff, which is good since it slows her down. Anyway, have hope. I know everybody is different. Her Dr. said she could be riding a horse again in January which is amazing considering her injuries. I hope that’s helps a bit, a bit of hope.
    Take care!

  2. I am so glad to hear the news! I was so worried about you and your Mum last night.
It sounds like it may be a challenging recovery, but if your Mum is anything like you…she will be determined to make a speedy and complete recovery with a smile on her face every step of the way!
She is VERY lucky to have such a wonderful family to give her lots of love and support.

  4. Oh Julie, I’m so glad to hear that you mum is okay. What a nasty fall. I need to go into my attic later, so I’ll be extra careful. Make sure you take her plenty of cakes and choccie as you risk starvation in the NHS!

  8. Argh, coming in late. I’m thinking about you and her. My father had an almost identical accident about 6 years ago – fell out of the loft in the garage – and he is now fine. But understandably leery of ladders.
