Yesterday I had around 800 bounced back emails pour into my inbox – looks like
they were part of a mass mail out with my email address configured
in as the return addres – how do they do that? Anyway I’ve decided to dump my email address and take on a new one. To contact me you can either leave me a comment here or click ’email me’ on the left which links into my new email account. Hopefully that will sort the problem – fingers crossed!
Hope that sorts it out Julie. One of the things I do to protect my e-mail address from robot spammers is to list it on my blog as
blah[at]blah[dot]com rather than using the proper @. That way, humans understand how to contact you, but robots don’t pick up your address for unsavoury purposes.

Why do bad things happen to the most wonderful people who clearly have their hands full!
Thankfully you were proactive…leading to a speedy resolution.
On another note: I am dying to see your latest Rabbits and their…friends?
Maybe, just maybe I will be lucky enough to adopt one too!

Argh what a pain. I’m glad you got it sorted out quickly though. I’d feel a bit lost without my email – sad, isn’t it?!

I’ve had that happen to several email addresses now. It’s so frustrating! Sorry you’ve had to deal with it.. it’s such a time sucker trying to figure out and then deal with the problem and then the pain of fixing up a new email addy.

That’s the reason I don’t have an email me link on my blog. People can find my email address in my profile or via my professional website. I have a provider that skips almost all the junk mail. I can find it in a junk-mail inbox in my mail account and look if they accidently qualified a mail as junk. In spite of all this I receive quite a lot of spam since I blog, something I never had being an Apple Mac-user. They must find new ways to have the robots search and find you. Good luck Julie, I hope it will be solved!

What a pain! There’s so much techie stuff that I need to learn like why would ‘they’ hijack someone’s email?!

I’m sorry to hear that but at least you got it all under control. That happened to me once but I didn’t find out until my internet provider locked me out of my account.
and the email they sent out under my email was disgusting!!!!

It happens to everybody – the only way to keep that from happening again, is to hide your email address from the bots that crawl for them. Ali suggested one way, but bots have gotten too smart for that, they know how to find those email addresses as well. You need to encode/encrypt your email address. It’s very easy:
http://www.wbwip.com/wbw/emailencoder.html
Then paste the code they give you JUST like in the example. So you’ll use the code twice. One in the mailto: area of the HTML and then again between the a href start and end tags. Your comment form won’t let me past in the example, but hopefully it’s clear enough.
Good luck!

Sorry to hear your email address has been hi-jacked.
I’m signing up again, just to make sure I’m on the notification list for shop updates – maybe one day I’ll get lucky 🙂
