holiday bag

We’re shortly off on holiday to the lovely Croyde Bay in Devon and it’s a fair drive from where we live so I decided that I needed a secret weapon to keep Amy busy (and hopefully avoid 200 "are we there yet"s). Unfortunately I’m not very gifted in the sewing department although luckily for me I know a lady who is; the lovely Raspberry makes wonderful things and has recently launched her etsy shop. So now Amy has a beautiful and perfect little holiday bag which I’m going to fill with sweeties, colouring pens, a notebook, a comic and a few little games – hopefully to keep her occupied for more than 10 minutes!

I’ll be out of touch for a while so here’s wishing you all a great time whatever you’re doing and hoping that the weather improves!

  1. Have a lovely time. Hope the weather improves enough for you to enjoy the beach and you don’t get endless “are we nearly there yets”. My aunt and uncle once drove to the south of France with my then small cousins and the first “are we nearly there” came before they got on the ferry!

  2. Hi Julie,
How I remember my parents’ frustration every time we asked ‘are we there yet!’
Amy’s little bag is adorable – I’m sure that she will love it. Have a wonderful holiday in Devon and I hope that the sun shines for you.

  4. Hello Julie. I discovered your lovely blog not so long ago but since then I manage to stop by almost everyday as I love the things you do. Really, you have magic in your hands! I’m Italian, I’m a mother and a wife, I cannot knit but I love many of the things you also love. Have wonderful vacations!

  5. Have a lovely holiday. I used to ask “are we nearly there yet” when we had reached Newbury (about 15 miles from home) on our way to Scotland!!! I wasn’t very popular with my 3 brothers, sister and parents!

  6. Hi Julie – hope you guys have a great break. We have an incar DVD player and all Roald Dahl stories saved onto the ipod. That saves a whole lot of ‘Are we there yet?’ from my little man, who is 7

  7. I have one of Raspberry’s lovely bags too! Hope it helps the journey pass for Amy, I sometimes wrap the pens/notebooks etc up so the contents of the bag last a bit longer than the first 10 minutes!

  8. Have a great time. Devon is lovely. I’m sure the bag contents will keep Amy occupied. The bag is great, by the way and so is that giant cupcake I spy on the shelf!

  9. Have a great holiday! I do that with the boys, get a goody bag all made up ready for them. It lasts even longer if you wrap everything up first, bit like a christmas stocking in summer. Don’t forget to take a rubbish bag though!

  10. I LOVE, ADORE, CHERISH CROYDE BAY! Oh how I wish we were going. That beach is just amazing. It takes us about 41/2 hours to get there..but its only about 30 miles away across the water. Friends have got a boat and pop over for lunch! Have you been before? Where will you stay? (In a ‘what kind of accomodation’ way not a stalker way!!!)
    Have a great time..xxx

PS I really love the hanging angel girl in the picture too. I’d love to get a better look at it.

  12. I call these travel totes for kids my “Bag of Tricks” My daughter has one and I usually do too. I used to keep one filled and handy for the times we ate in a restaurant and when my daughter was little and we’d go on a long flight I’d wrap the items in colored tissue like they were presents and “reward” her if she was good.
Have a great holiday and I hope you see some sun.

  13. Hope you had a lovely time in Croyde. I went to a wedding there last year, it was gorgeous. Sorry about the summer in the UK this year, very wet, eh?
