Last week was the college half term break here, so there was lots of time spent with Toby walking in the woods. Autumn is definitely here now, with its cold breezes, crunchy leaves underfoot and toadstools everywhere. It was fascinating to see the same patch of toadstools visibly growing each day as we passed by them on our same route through the wood and I’m looking forward to getting out there on my own with my camera later in the week (Toby gets most miffed if I stop to take pictures on our walks together).
Back at home my knitting has been influenced by autumn too and I’m spending most of this week finishing off this little black bear and grey bunny ready for a giveaway. They’ll both be wearing autumnal clothes and I’ve had fun playing around with a duplicate stitched design for some toadstools on the skirt of one of the dresses. I’ve made a free chart for the toadstools that you can download here, Download Toadstool chart
I’ve also made a little blouse with a collar to go under a pair of dungarees. I made this by combining the bottom of the camisole that you can find in my free ‘Sundress supplement’ pattern with the bodice from my ‘Textured dresses’ pattern. Simply cast on and work up to row 19 from the camisole in the Sundress pattern for the 9 inch animals, and then work from row 1 of the bodice pattern on page 3 in the Textured dresses pattern.
I’ll be back soon with pictures of these two finished animals and details of how you can enter to win one of them – it will be a random number generated draw.
Hope the rest of your week goes well. We’re having a good one here and celebrating Amy’s new job as a special needs teaching assistant – we’re really proud of her as she embarks on life after full time education and embraces all of the responsibilities of working life.
See you soon xx
Glad that Toby has settled in at college and enjoyed his half term walks. Congratulations to Amy on her new job. Her insights as a sister will give her an advantage over other young people and allow her to be a support to all she meets. Your new knits are charming as ever. Best wishes to all rhe family

Hi Julie – Your new Fall designs are lovely. Looking forward to seeing the animals dressed in them and trying my hand at knitting a “toadstool” dress. Also, your photos are beautiful as always. Thanks for sharing.
Congratulations to AMY on her new job. How wonderful that she’s working with special needs individuals. I’m sure her experiences with Toby have helped to prepare her well for this endeavor. I spent my entire 42-year teaching career working with special needs individuals and it was so rewarding.
Looking forward to the giveaway!

I absolutely love your beautiful knitted animals . It has become a tradition in our family that I know each grandchild an animal , which then is featured in every birth milestone photo ! I have just finished a rabbit for our November arrival, but big sister requested a meerkat ! I combined your fox , dog and mouse patterns and came up with a meerkat !

2021 has brought significant challenges and some difficult losses, but knitting has been very relaxing and restorative. My little grandchildren love LCR animals, and I love making them. I have given them to other friends as well who needed a little pick-me-up. Congratulations to your family as you start some new and exciting things. Best wishes to everyone with all their projects. I love seeing them all. I have made notebooks of the patterns to pass along to my granddaughter when she is old enough to start knitting. ❤️

Hi Julie,
I started knitting because I wanted to learn how to make your Little Cotton Rabbits. They were my #1 goal in knitting. I had the most basic knitting skills (I could only make garter scarves) but I challenged myself to learn all the new techniques needed to make a little rabbit from you patterns. It took me a few months of sheer determination! I was so proud of myself when I first made my little bunny named “Basil”. He is my treasured friend and I will never part with him. Since then I’ve made more friends for Basil – a little fox, his bunny girlfriend, and a little spaniel dog, all from your patterns. I am so thankful for you as a pattern designer and maker. You’ve made the most precious and beautiful knitted animal patterns, and they are so affordable too! They bring such joy to people’s lives! They’re more than toys for me. I truly love them and hug them like they’re my little children. Thank you for this giveaway and for your generosity.
Sincerely,
-Abigail O. from Ontario, Canada

Our little granddaughter, Lynley, is so nurturing and just loves any kind of animal. She loves stuffed animals more than her dolls. She would absolutely love your little rabbit and/or bear. Because she is such a little mother, she would love taking care of the rabbit or bear and dressing them up in the adorable little outfits. Years ago, I used to do Speech Therapy with autistic children and they have always been special to me.
Blessings to you and your family,
