picking up the pace again

Thanks so very much for all of the kind comments on the previous post. It's especially helpful to hear from others who've had similar experiences and I really appreciate all of the suggestions too. I'll be trying to reply to all of your comments over the next day or two.

Is it really the last day of November today? Considering that Christmas is always at the same time each year it really does have a way of sneaking up on a person. I need to get my act together and finish off all of the animals that I'm working on because it's getting awfully close to last posting dates.

Mousey

I've been working on this little mouse today and she at least is now finished. Hopefully a few more of them will be ready soon. I'll keep you posted if you are interested.

  1. Oh how cute is that dress, will need to get back to knitting some more of your gorgeous animals next year, have been having rest from knitting due to tendonitis but enjoying some embroidery instead. I know how you feel about this year, last time I looked it was September, where did it all go?
At least most of my Xmas stuff is done – had to scale down on some plans due to busyness at work but am happy with what I have done. Enjoy your knitting x

  4. Hi Julie
I just discovered your blog and am very interested in buying one of your darling creations. Your life with your son is very interesting to me. I am a retired special education teacher who continues to substitute teach because I love the children. Also I have a daughter and husband with disabilities so your story hits home. Please let me know when you have more for sale.

  7. Although I adore all the animals you’ve created, I must say it’s the clothes that send me over the moon. That reindeer dress is precious. I’d like to have a garland made up of the entire wardrobe of your creations! All are so adorable.

  8. I love your knitting. I had surgery yesterday and today’s goal is to rest with a cup of tea and knit on a wrist warmer – something simple and soothing. I wondered if they have “working dogs” for Asperger’s in the UK. We have them here and when I saw one I thought of Toby. Blessings to you.

  10. Hello from Minnesota (USA) where the weather is balmy for this time of year. I’ve been following your blog for a little over a month and want you to know how much I treasure reading your posts and truly admire the quality of your work. I am knitting an afghan for a Christmas gift, which I was inspired to do because of your blog. I also follow your Instagram posts – your photography is beautiful! Perhaps you’ll do an “English Countryside” publication in the future? Best wishes. . .

  14. Your knitting is simply exquisite.
Having read your previous post, my heart goes out to you.
I worked in a special needs school for sixteen years. The autistic department made up a third of the school, the rest were mostly behavioural problems. But nearly all the parents were battling red tape in some way or another, trying to get more help and support and then trying to keep it year after year.
All the very best to you, Julie, hoping that you can find solace and distraction as often as is needed.

  15. Have you considered creating a calendar that people could buy? I love your photography and the pictures and moods you create, and having just bought a new calendar (my favourite one does not exist this year) I can’t help but I would love to look at your work every day of the year in my kitchen. Mouse and cute dress are adorable! X x

  17. Hi Julie,
I have just come across your blog and I am really enjoying reading it. Your work is truly exquisite. I would love to be able to knit to your standard. Each one is a little work of art! I think I will have to purchase some of your patterns and see how I get on! I work with Special Needs children every day and I also wanted to say to you it is a joy to hear you speak so lovingly about your beautiful son. I am sure there are some difficult days too but it is obvious from your blog that Toby is surrounded by love. Will continue to read your blog and I will definitely order a pattern and start to knit a bunny myself! With kind regards, Brenda from Dublin.

  20. What a sweet little mouse for the holidays. I am sure that she will be very quiet on Christmas Eve…
I hope things go well with Toby’s transition. Should we hope that he will be on some of his worst behavior for the tribunal to illustrate what you so carefully crafted in the documents? Not to make it a bad day for you, but it is so much easier to trivialize the impact when you are not the one that is dealing with it daily.
Bless you and your family, and hope you have a happy holiday season.
