As mentioned over a month ago, I have just celebrated the start of my 9th blogging year!
I published my first blog post in September 2006 on the day before Toby started school – he was still 4 years old and much, much tinier than he is today! Amy was 6 and loved Disney princesses, colouring books and ballet. One of the first bunnies that I made for her was a ballerina bunny so it seems appropriate to bring that into this giveaway.
For all of you knitters out there I've written up a free supplement pattern for any of the girl animal patterns. It has instructions for a ballerina wrap cardigan and a simple circular net tutu. If you've bought a copy of any of my animal patterns and you'd like to knit up a ballet outfit for them you can download a copy here.
For all of you non-knitters, I am giving away the two ballerina animals pictured above, one to each of two winners.
To enter the giveaway just leave a comment on this post and let me know what things are making you happy at the moment. I'll leave the post up until next Thursday (October 23rd) at which time I'll use a random number generator to pick two winners – the first number picked will be given the choice of the rabbit or the elephant so I'm afraid the 2nd winner will have to settle for whichever animal is left.
Thanks again for visiting here with me. Whether you're a new visitor or one who has been with me on my little blogging journey since the beginning, I really appreciate you stopping by. I'll leave you with a picture of some ballerina bunnies that I made back in 2006 and my lovely girl as she once was (now she's all eye-linered up and clad in black with purple Doc Martens – how times have changed).
PS: Just a quick note to say that if you are a knitter and want to enter the giveaway for the 2 animals, that's absolutely fine – I didn't mean to make it sound as if you weren't allowed x
…………………………………………………………………………………………..
Thanks so much to everyone who entered the giveaway drawing. The random number generator picked numbers 257 which is Caroline Roberts and 926 which is Wanda (the winners have been notified).
I simply adore everything you make! It would make my day, my week …. my year to win one of your precious ballerinas. They are the sweetest thing ever x

As to things that make me happy right now: my little girl started kindergarten in September. She is only 2 and does not talk much yet but I am so happy to see her doing so well in a new situation.
I am happy that I can stop by the post office after work today and pick up my delivery of yarn and start planning new project.
And I am happy that I have your blog posts to look forward to.

I have sweet little nieces and nephews coming into the world, and I’ve knitted a rabbit or fox for each one of them to sit on the shelves in their nurseries! I’ve also made them as gifts for my sisters and friends! Your patterns are flawless, look so polished, and are so easy to follow! Thanks for sharing your talent with us! Ironically enough, what is currently making me happy is dance! I grew up doing ballet, and have continued over the years. After a hiatus from it because of real-life responsibilities, I’ve finally started up again and realized I missed it terribly. It really is my happy place, because I can just BE and MOVE and feel the music and leave my worries and stress at the door. Congrats on your blogiversary!

Another thing making me happy today, is a rose plant that I brought in off the balcony to keep inside through the winter in hopes it might put out a flower or two to cheer up my elderly Mom, and it has already started putting out several sets of new leaves. Absolutely beautiful – As a grandma to five I am always knitting and took early retirement from teaching a couple of years ago to start a small knitting business – http://www.by-jude.co.uk – which I am happy to say is going well. I have tried – but either the ears are not right or the trunk – and the faces never look good. I will keep trying .. but just seeing yours make me happy (if not a bit green) – keep up the good work and here’s to another 9 years.

I start out by saying…it’s a bit difficult to happy when one is in mourning over a sudden loss of a family member in a car accident yesterday. However, thinking of something that will make one happy is needed right now, so here it is…my daughter in law who just lost her mother had a baby girl 6 months ago. She lights up my day with her smiles, her eyes, the love she offers in such a delightful way is just as her mother. To leave behind a creation of oneself is beautiful.

This week what has made me happier than anything else was being able to send of my youngest girl to school without having to wipe a river of tears. She’s soon to be seven but as she’s in a class with kids who’ll turn 9, there’s at times quite a clash between her cognitive needs and her emotional needs.
By making small changes together with the school, it seems that for now, she’s happy again to attend…
It’s unbelievable how one’s heart gets overtaken by one’s children…. in all their happiness and in all their worries.

Hi Julie,
I love your blog, happy 9th year.
What’s making me happy at the moment is using up all my old left over yarn to make two granny square blankets for us (me).
The yarn is all left over from blankets I’ve made for my children and grandchildren.
Have a great weekend

We are losing our beautiful home to the roads authority. We have made it into a beautiful wild life environment, encouraging so much bird life, frogs etc. So very sad and caused me depression.
However I realise my home can be taken from me, but nature of which I seek and love is always around me wherever we go. I will encourage new life into our new place whenever it happens.
So what makes me happy just now – here in Australia it is spring so it’s the birds building their nests, and the young bounding around in spring sunshine.
And that happiness is all around us and free. What an amazing world we live in, when we look at nature. Priceless

I would echo the comments of previous replies, your work is just phenomenal Julie. You are so very generous to give the two little ballerinas away – as any knitter knows, the hours of work that has gone into making these two little characters must be huge. What makes me happy – I have just started a dressmaking course which I am finding so exciting and also, as I work with children, feeling that you can make a difference. Thanks for your blog, it has been such an inspiration over the years.

What makes me happy is having time at home today after working for seven days(two part-time jobs). I’ll take time for me and do some crocheting, making a hanging heart for a co-worker who just got married. Then I hope to squeeze in making an adorable candy corn bunting I just saw on youtube, made from paper plates.

I wish your adorable blog a happy birthday! I am afraid I am late to play for the beautiful present in your giveaway. At the moment I am happy to cook apples, because my mum has given me plenty of them and unfortunately they don’t keep this year. I give a lot to neighbours and friends, I eat some, and i try to cook and sterilize and deep freeze my preparations for later! Thank you for sharing so much in your blog, Anne

I love the month of October! and today I go to the pumpkin patch with my class of preKinders! All their giggles and smiles will just warm my heart (it’s a particularly blustery day today with the leaves blowing!) Then I’ll have lunch with all my “peeps” . . . coming home to cozy in this evening with my honey and finish binding a quilt or knit or row or two on the fall colored throw I’m working on – it’s going to be a fall day filled with happiness! and maybe, just maybe I’ll end up with an adorable bunny or elephant! They are so sweet!

Hello from Canada! I would feel like I’d died and gone to Heaven if I ever won one of your creations, ESPECIALLY one from the ballet bunch! I have been fascinated by your blog, and your work since it’s inception, and have been knitting your patterns ever since their posting!! I cannot express how much joy and love your little creations have brought to my little corner of the world. They make me smile and I love them with all my heart! (In fact, I super-sized the bunnies like you did once, and have fallen in love with them as well!! They end up being about 12 inches tall!!”) I have only made the bunnies so far, but am keen to start on the other animals!
I supposed I just want to say thank you for your contribution to the knitting community, and congratulations on nine years of blogging. Your patterns are the best written patterns I’ve ever come across, and your work is truly amazing. Thank you for everything you do, and I would consider it an absolute treasure to ever win one of your creations!

I have to say, Julie, that there are many things right now that make me happy – the colours of the fall leaves, the crisp fresh air, the hint of woodsmoke as I head out to work in the morning or outside in the evening, the call of the bluejays as they discover new seed in my feeders…. More importantly, after this week’s tragedies, I am happy to live in Canada where the sacrifice of our unsung heros is recognized and honoured.
