first signs of spring

Thanks so much for all the kind comments, emails and suggestions for helping Toby get through the rest of the winter. I am hopeful that things will improve once the warmer weather and longer days of spring arrive and seeing as the first blossoms have opened on our old plum tree in the last few days this now feels a little closer!

Blossom

It's been a busy week here and I had a lovely day on tuesday at my first ever workshop 'teaching' session. I woke up really early in the morning and was feeling really nervous before we started, but I was lucky to have the nicest group of ladies turn up and we all chatted and knitted and made mini bunnies. Thanks so much to Susan, Jackie, Emma, Esther, Iolanda and Rose for coming along and making my nervousness evaporate!

To help take my mind off feeling nervous I had a play around with some yarn at the crack of dawn on tuesday and came up with a little teeny tiny dress pattern for the mini bunnies. If you'd like to make one the pattern is over here with the rest of my free patterns.

Minibun

Thanks again for all of the kind messages about Toby. He'll move on from this rocky patch when he is ready to and in the meantime I'll just do my best to keep life calm and reduce stress for him. If there is one thing I've learned in the last 11 years it is to take
each day one at a time and not assume the bad bits will last forever, so far that kind of thinking has worked anyway 🙂

Have a good weekend x

  1. So pleased you had a great day, the little rabbits are so cut. Those flowering buds are a good sign that spring is around the corner and Toby will soon be enjoying the great outdoors.

  2. Hi Julie, so glad to hear that the workshop went well. I must have a go at those cute tiny rabbits. I’m glad spring is on it’s way here…..spare a thought for east coast USA! My son was unable to board a flight to New York this morning, as all the airports are close due to an extremely bad snow fall.

  3. I love the dresses. Now do I really need little miniature creatures made just so I can make the dresses? It would appear so! I’m so glad your class went well. Well done Julie. Hugs xx

  4. The days are getting longer and I do hope that Toby (and all of you) will benefit from Spring not being too far away.
Your little creatures are wonderful – I can’t believe they have their own dresses 🙂
I recently knit a rabbit for a raffle prize and, as a result, have had requests asking if I make them to sell. This has opened up a can of worms with regard to having to provide a CE mark without which I am unable to charge – or face Trading Standards knocking on my door.
    Ah well…..

  7. Hi Julie, so glad you enjoyed your first workshop, I wish I lived in your area – not the other side of the world – I would have loved to come along. Your strength with Toby is amazing, he is a very lucky boy. Take care xxBrenda

  8. Lovely to see Spring making its debut in your little corner of the world. Across the pond, Toronto, Canada, a major snowstorm continues with 400 flights cancelled today. Thank you kindly for the delightful wee skirt pattern for the bunnies. You are so very generous. Best wishes.

  9. It may not be something current that has disrupted him. Some of the autistic individuals I work with, remember something about this time of year that upset them this time last year. Sometimes this fits and you can pin it on something. I love reading you blog and watching your creativity.

  10. Well done on having a fabulous workshop, you were born to do it I’m sure. I have suffered periodically from depression, and the phrase ‘This too shall pass’ is what keeps me holding on when I feel like giving up. Because it does pass. Even if it may come back, it passes. Your blog is the one I look forward to the most, take care and keep looking for signs of spring. Your bunny dresses are gorgeous. Hang on in there.

  12. Oh – blossoms. We got snow instead. Still below freezing – or two degrees above it.
Rachel lost Julie this week, Levi’s dog. You need to let her tell you the story. It’s a deep blow to the family.
Love the dresses – and the promise of spring. Can it be real?

There is hope for Spring! We here in Ontario just had the worst storm of the Winter season. We are snowed in completely. To see your plum blossom is just awesome.

Kirsten just saw the photo of your little cute bunnies and said, “Awwww, they’re so cute”! 😀 It would be fun as a mother-daughter treat to be on one of your classes. Hmmm, how to get you to come and visit us here in the states………. 😉

  17. Hi Julie,
Glad to hear that your workshop went so well. You always come across so organised in your everyday life so I’m sure the workshop was well thoughout and well organised and therefore no need for you to be nervous especially on a subject you know so well. I’m sure the ladies will be looking forward to the next one.
Hope Toby is having a better week.
