watching a small spider create a work of art
(and yes, that is actually sunshine sparkling off the strands of web) – summer has arrived here at last.
delighting in the beauty of flowers beginning to open
smiling at Toby having fun in the sun
and laughing at the collection of toys that have to go everywhere with him – it takes him a couple of trips to move them all each time!
And in between looking after home and family I've been sitting in the shade at the end of the garden and trying to finish off the pattern for the little pouch that I promised all of you lovely people back in April!
It's still in progress but hopefully will be done soon!
It's been mostly a happy, relaxing week now that summer has arrived properly. Hope you can say the same for your week too.
Beautiful pics Julie! Spiders webs are a work of art in their own right.

Toby looks like he is enjoying himself. Love the little pouch. Your garden looks lovely. Did you see the opening ceremony – the Queen with Bond was hilarous? Loved Mr Bean and the contemporary dancers – for 7/7 – WOW! Love Zoe x

Thanks, my lovely husband made them for me. They are linkaboard raised beds with homemade polyethene fronts and insect netting to keep the caterpillars and other munchers off my veg!

Your gardens are just lovely as always. How smart to put the paving stones under the swings!! Ours have turned into big patches of worn out dirt where the little ones have drug their feet. Brilliant!
And Toby……. I giggled when I saw him swinging sideways. And his pile of toys……. yes……. I get that.
I hope your summer with Toby home has been okay if not pleasant at times…..

Good evening Julie!
I like this concept of snippets. They speak more eloquently, perhaps, of our everyday life and the joys we find than big chunks of days out and special occasions. Those snippets also reveal little truths; I can see how attentive to nature you are, how beautiful you have made your home and, of course, how much you love Toby!
Yes, that spider’s web is a work of art. At first sight it reminded me of a tree trunk cross-section with all its regular rings.
I am quite drunk on summer at the moment. It has a hint of possibility to it. I love evenings out in the countryside, lingering out late.
Have a beautiful week, Julie.

Lovely to read about your week…have been popping into your blog and wondering how you have been coping with Toby and his altered routine. Your garden looks fantastic, I’m green with envy. How vege patch was obliterated with liquifaction following the Christchurch earthquake; replanted it four months later only to have a second quake hit us…hoping for success this Spring.

How lovely your garden looks, and what a delightful shady corner you have to sit and knit in. Here’s wishing you many more summery days in the coming weeks that allow you and Toby to ‘play out’ 😀

When I look at Toby, I am a little ashamed at the rush and jumble I have created for myself over these last months. I am like the spider, I guess, doing my best to work on a pattern much larger than myself and hoping that, in the end, though I cannot see it all at once as giant people can, it will still be what it should. I love to see your table full of notes and the beginning of something new. And the flowers – how grateful I am that they know how to blossom without my having to help them to it.
I hope that the weather and the peace holds for you a while, dear one.

I absolutely adore these pictures – I know it’s Summer, but it really feels a little like Autumn for me at the moment…..all those spiders webs – every time I step out into the garden I end up with a face full of web or disturbing some poor little critter that has to start all over again.

Lovely. What do you have over your planting beds? Is it netting for bugs, or plastic for a hotbed? I am inspired to try this.

I was always so entranced by spider webs when I was little – I thought they were to do with fairies! Especially when they shone with rain. Julie, you were the very first one in blog land who inspired me to be brave four years ago and try my hand at a blog. Now, through the darkest of days and a very sad time, I am closing My Southern Heart in a week or so and wanted you to know. I have written my last blog post. My next blog will be called “Sweet Journey Home” and I truly hope you will follow me there when it is up and running. I have LOVED following your family. I have shared tears along with you about Toby and rejoiced with you when things were good. I have watched as your beautiful daughter grew up. I have ENVIED your amazing talent with those knitting needles! Anyway, I wanted to take a moment out of packing and say hello.
Love,
Dianne
