Half term business

It's been half term break from school this week and a pretty full-on one at that. Toby and I have woodwalked every day and I've been trying to spend time with Amy too, although inevitably Toby does get far more of my attention. Hopefully the time I have managed to give Amy has been quality time. Today she's had a friend round and we've made pizzas from scratch and carved pumpkin heads ready for Halloween on monday – so I'm feeling like a good mum today!

I look forward to catching up with everyone next week when I have a little time to call my own again! Until then I hope you have a spooky and fun Halloween weekend wherever you are x

  1. You are a good mother every day – tell yourself often that your daughter has had many happy hours of quality time with mum thanks to all the clever and creative ways that you invent to extend her enjoyment of each season together. Can you compensate for every day that was adjusted to accommodate her brother’s needs? No but neither has she been without her share of fun and family moments with mum. We see with every posting that your children are blessed with childhoods enhanced by a very clever loving competent mum. The pumpkins are so cute and just one of the many amazing events your children have enjoyed with you – far more than the limited family time experienced by most of the children I see at work or through my volunteer connections.

  2. Hope Toby got through half-term reasonably calmly. Love the pumpkins! They make my efforts look tame. We are having a ‘scarey’ party for the three grandchildren tomorrow, mainly food and games-pin the nose on the witch, sweetie bobbing (apples too big, sweets in soggy jelly OK)and other messy things. Why do Nanny and Grandad always get the messy things?!!

  3. those pumpkins are SO cute! I think we’ll carve ours tonight.
We always struggle with divvying up the attention properly – it’s tough.
I wish we had woods to walk through every day!

I wanted to tell you about a segment on CBS, from last week,we tape it and just watched it.. that was about autism and the iPad and how it is helping autistic children so much, immediately thought of you and that it may have some helpful information.
    You are one amazing Mom.

  5. Sometimes, I wonder about Martha’s sanity. I would come to your house for treats, but I’d be hugging the edge of the porch as far from those teeth as I could possibly get. I have in my mind a picture of you and Amy exchanging a look of understanding over poor Toby’s head – as comrades in a costly but dear service. I don’t remember my mom ever making pizza with me when I was young – I wish I did. And still, I think she was a wonderful mother.

  6. Pumpkins in need of a visit to the dentist! The last thing my son did before he left home was make buns with his brother (they were both in their twenties!) Pizza memories will last a life time as will the knowledge Amy has that she is much loved. always and forever.

  7. Your pumpkins are great – see you are a good mum that does pumpkin carving whereas I am a complete humbug about halloween and try to let it pass with as little attention as possible. The children ARE. NOT. IMPRESSED! I have done pumpkins in previous years but seem to have, um, forgotten about it this year. Lucy xx

  8. What a fun idea for your pumpkins! We are so lame. We haven’t carved ours yet this year. Too many fires to put out on the home front and my husband was out of town so it was me trying frantically to keep things under control. I suggested to The Native’s that we carve them after Halloween and that would be okay right? You can imagine the looks I got so after school before Trick or Treating they will grab knives and quickly carve their pumpkins. Hmmm. I hope I have candles to put in them!
Be sure and take some ‘mommy’ time if you can.
    Hugs!

  9. Just caught up with the family pumpkins…love those teeth! Of Course you’re a good Mum…don’t ever think you’re not. Funny story from Hallowe’en here. Met a little chap in a shop. He had a bright orange net trimmed with a small annoyed- looking bat. “What’s that for?” I asked. “I’m going to catch tiny witches in it tonight, and keep them as pets in our shed!” was the reply. The height of his Mum’s eyebrows had to be seen to be believed! Love to you and the family. Jx
