Bluebells

One of the nicest things about having children in different schools is that the inset days are usually different. This was the case yesterday with Toby going back to school a day earlier than Amy, giving us the chance to spend some extra time together. After breakfast we headed off to the woods where the bluebells were out. Sadly they were a little past their best but still scented the air and made the woods more magical than ever…

A peacefully perfect day to finish off the Easter break.

  1. I love bluebells, we also take a walk in the woods this time of year – we better do it soon if the bluebells are getting a little past it.
    The cake looks yummy!!

  2. I’ve never seen so many blue bells in one place! How magical!
I’m soooo glad you were able to spend such a special alone time day with your daughter.
As important as those moments are, it is really hard finding them when other children 😀 take up so much of our time and lives!
Your day together sounds just perfect! And I love that you ended it with cake. 😀

  5. As a teacher, I often hear moans from parents that we can’t co-ordinate our inset days with other schools! To be fair, these are often working parents who find child care difficult, but it is lovely to hear a parent see this as a perfect opportunity for ome quality time with one of their children. Glad you had a lovely day together. I can only surmise that this is even more important for you and Amy as Toby must be quite demanding on your time. Hope you have a lovely bank holiday weekend.

  6. oh, what amazing, perfect photos. I actually have a photo very similar, from a field of bluebells that my husband and I found just off from the M4 on the way to Bristol when we broke down and had a wander while aiting for a tow truck (and had only been dating a couple of months). Thank you for reminding me of a very happy memory!

  7. When we were in Huntingdon, we visited a little Norman period church, just a bit of a walk from the dairy farm gone bed and breakfast we had stayed in the night before. I remember going in through the wooden gate and being stunned by the drive up to the church, through trees like the ones in the blue bell wood – huge and ancient, dusted with green, with tiny flowers growing in the bowls between the great roots. It was a drive straight out of Austin. it looked much like the paths running between the drifts of bluebells you show me here. So many small places in England hit me with waves of home, as if I’d only been away, and just come back.
There is one place here, far up into the mountains where there is a stand of ancient pine – there, the path is thick with needle mast, and the roots, running along the surface of the ground, make a sort of staircase down to the springs below. It is the only place here that comes close to this. How lucky you are to live so close, and to have been able to go there, just the two of you.

  8. Going in for day surgery today and haven’t been able to eat or drink since 7.30am and seeing that beautiful cake is making me sooo hungry I think I’ll be treating myself at the local bakery to a large slice of victoria sponge when I come out! Yum! yum! 🙂

  10. Thank you for the lovely walk in the woods. Don’t see things like that here in Florida! I recall from childhood walkinging in German forests and playing in daisy fields. What grand memories. It is good to see people still enjoy things like that.
So glad you had a special day with your daughter in such gorgeous surroundings.
I think ending with cake is perfect!

At the end of today we were blessed with a beautiful rainbow and a lovely pinkish/purpley sunset that was breathtaking..All at once…And a friend of mine has a field of wild lupins. Reminds me very much of your bluebells. I love your pictures and posts. I hope things are going well for you and your family.
