I still haven't ventured out into the crowds of christmas shoppers, I'd much rather be right here…
…knitting mittens. The top left ones are for my Dad (made with yarn gifted to me a while ago by the lovely Michaela). Last christmas I'd only finished one and wrapped it for him with the promise that the second would follow shortly and suddenly here we are 12 months later! You will get your pair of mittens this Christmas Dad! The other two pairs are for me because you can never have too many mittens!
Anyway all this mitten knitting has led me to resort to internet shopping for our most of my present buying and our Christmas food and drink. I just hope that the deliveries don't get stuck in Christmas snow! I'm remembering an episode of The Good Life where Margot's entire christmas delivery didn't arrive. I do hope I won't be saying 'Christmas has not been delivered to this house' on Christmas morning!
I don’t blame you for wanting to sit by that fire!!
Gorgeous knitting, as always. 🙂
Heaven forbid that you would turn into Margot on Christmas morning! lol

Your knitting is fab, love the colours. I thought I would be more organised for Christmas now that I no longer work, but not so. A lot of my present shopping has been done online too.

Oh blimey, don’t even joke about Christmas not being delivered. The presents are here but I am relying on Mr Ocado to bring the food next week otherwise it’s fishfingers and chips all round!!!
I remember going to the supermarket the day before Christmas Eve to be told there were no sprouts that night but if I cared to come back at 7am the next day they might have had a fresh delivery – never again!

Hi Julie
How is Toby going with his PEC schedule
We are using a schedule and a calendar for each month for my son with autism and it does seem to help a bit

Hi Julie,
You do right that
s the best idea, Sitting in front of the fire and knitting. I just love your knitting. You seem to get the colour combinations just right. I was wondering where you got the pattern for the fingerless mittens and your Dads mittens , as they look sooo good?Love Carole from Rossendale xxx
ps. I`ve made some of your cute mini christmas socks this week.Fab pattern xx

I love the picot edge on those fingerless mittens. Very neat. Sitting by your cosy fire knitting must be better by far than battling through the Christmas bustle at the shops – that’s if you can get there!

Julie – It appears that you knit your mitts flat. Do you follow a pattern that is published out there? This could be the start to my knitting better fingerless mitts!

I am knitting mittens at the moment too, my first pair this year were stripy like yours (but without the lovely picot edging – tell us where to find the pattern!) I have just finished a fuzzy sparkly black pair for a christmas present and I want to make myself some more too… on the other hand (pardon the pun) I really should be finishing all the baby knitting I started for a friend whose baby is due on the 29th December!

I’m in the same boat as you this year…I did all of our Christmas shopping online (the items that required purchase anyway)…more out of necessity than a desire to do so…seems a nasty bug has got hold of our house and won’t let go, so I’m keeping it to myself, rather than sharing with the masses!
And I must say, that as much as I missed the teeming throngs of holiday shoppers this year, it was far more relaxing staying in, and I got a ton of gift-knitting done!
Happy Holidays, no matter how you spend it!

I think knitting by the fire and sorting the pressies out online is definitely the way to go. Really looking forward to seeing the finished mitts. They look lovely already!

You have the right idea there! I’m looking forward to finishing work this Friday then I can actually get some stuff done at last. But that also includes decorating a bedroom for guests who are coming…

I’ve been having Margot thoughts too – daughter will provide backup if necessary with food, I hope, but I’m hoping other things will arrive if we get snow tomorrow. I’ve been knitting gloves and gnomes as I can’t get out while husband and mother-in-law are both housebound for different reasons!

Having braved the madness in Basingstoke today, you certainly have the right idea there. I failed miserably too – got a couple of presents but somehow managed to buy a load of jumpers for me & daughter in Primark…whoops!

Twas the night before Christmas, the snow was forcast, the needles were stirring, with …. enough. Love the picot edging.

What a lovely way to spend the day. If I were you, I wouldn’t venture out in to the maelstrom that is Christmas shopping either.

I have been doing exactly the same as you. Knitting fingerless mits by the same woodburner that you have and which I love. My mits are going to sit in a mug with a sachet of hot chocolate as a raffle prize for my toddler christmas party on Friday. Hope you enjoy the rest of the peace and quiet of this week. Bx

Oh, Margot. Such a long suffering soul. Every so often, we look up and screech: “Geddy!!” at each other, for the sheer joy of remembering her. I love ordering off the net. It’s like a little bit of Christmas every day when the post or Fed Ex drop by, and always an exciting risk, since Tucker took up disemboweling packages left on the porch. Now we have them left by the gate, which is also a risk – of passers-bye or rain or snow. But just the parcel itself is always a thrill – unless I look at it and it’s something Cam has secretly ordered for his wife and had sent to us – or it’s for Chaz. I don’t even remember what all I’ve sent for, which probably means I’ve spent more than I should. I’ll return to normal in January. I’m almost certain of it.

Should Christmas not turn up in a van do you have neighbours next door with whom you could celebrate and partake of a little elderberry wine? A nice Richard Briers-alike to flirt a little with.
(That sounds quite fun. Would you like me to redirect the van??)

Julie – as ever, you have inspired me! I am longing to knit and sit and needed a project. I’d love to make a pair of stripy mittens like yours. Did you follow a pattern? Is it available – please? I love the pretty edging. I am full of desire and itching to buy some yarn!!!!

This is my idea of heaven – gentle knitting by the fire … what can beat it? Certainly not the madding crowds, the cost of car parking and, at present, looking out for black ice on the roads!
