All done.

Well my finished memorial patch is far from perfect but I’m still rather pleased with it and it’s pretty close to what I had in mind. I’ve added my initials and the date (thanks Jill and Caroline for the suggestion) and it might need a few more stitches to hold it in place but I’ll take it for a test snuggle first.

Thanks for all the kind comments about it on the previous posts. And to those of you who asked, all I did was type up the text on the computer and fiddle about with placement and fonts. I printed it out (black text on white paper), pinned to an old linen dinner napkin, held it up to the window and traced the letters with a coloured pencil. Then I stitched (back stitch I think). Pretty low tech stuff!

Anyway, I’ve really enjoyed my small foray into stitching but I’ll not be giving up my day job! Now, I’m off to resume my knitting and rest my poor throat before the children get home (I’ve got a nasty throat infection from the cold of last week) a nice cup of tea wouldn’t go amiss either!

  4. this is such a lovely idea, it shows how much you care for your family and how wide and open your heart is. I love your design, it makes me think about my own grandparents and how much I loved and enjoyed them. And how big our family ones was and how small it is now. So many dear members, so many days in our garden with laughter and joy. Makes me feel a little sad I have to confess, but I also know that life is always getting it´s own way and it´s also great the way it is today.
Love also the stripes on your blanket and your knitted heart, alltogether looks so very soothing and calm.

  5. I love that idea! I knit many baby blankets for various people, and a patch like that “with love in every stitch”, would be a nice thing to add. (no buttons, of course) Thanks!

  7. Hi Julie, I think that your dedication looks lovely. It is an interesting thing to stitch lettering. I sometimes stitch some of the little things my son writes. To keep his little handwriting forever instead of losing it in a jumble of paperwork…Jen

I’m also struck with your knitting in this picture…do you have a pattern at all for the heart?

  15. Such a terrific heart pattern from smariek’s blog! I have knit it with dishcloth cotton but whatever you are knitting it with gives it such a lovely drape. I’ve been drawn to getting out my hoop and floss lately, so maybe I’ll put down my knitting for a bit soon!

  18. A cup of tea does smoothe away many issues, and I hope you are feeling well soon. I came out of lurking to tell you how much I enjoyed your post on 05/19/2008 showing your box little animals in progress. It was a bit like peeking into Santa’s work shop…
