oh christmas tree, oh christmas tree…

4 broken baubles,
3 dodgy lightbulbs,
2 manic children,
and a load of deccies on the christmas tree!

The tree is up and so christmas time has officially arrived at our
house heralding in a frenzy of excitement which will build and build
over the next 9 days. I now have to watch the tree like a hawk to stop
Toby from a) trying to climb it, b) chewing the non-edible decorations,
and c) eating the chocolate decorations with the foil still on.

We had
fun and games putting it up too. We put it in the spot it always
occupies but Toby threw a wobbly as this meant moving his lego stacking
table. Then we put the table back, moved one of the sofas and relocated
the tree to the howls of another melt down. Still, as they say third
time lucky and as it turns out we ended up wondering why we’d not
thought of putting the tree in this corner in the first place!

We had a bit of good new yesterday from Mum – the halo has been taken off! Hooray!! Although she still has to wear a rigid plastic high collar for the next 3 weeks and is finding it very uncomfortable to talk and eat. But at least it’s all progressing well and she’ll soon be able to graduate to a soft collar for support which will really improve things for her.

  1. What wonderful news about your mother’s Halo… although a halo on Christmas day would somehow be fitting! Wishing your Mum a continued and speedy recovery and a very happy Christmas to you all. It’s so lovely to read about your family, thank you so much for sharing.

  2. So glad to hear your Mum is making wonderful progress. I am sure she will be ever so grateful once she is no longer outfitted with any devices…As always, it is most enjoyable reading your families adventures. Best of luck with Toby and the tree =). I have to redecorate our tree daily as my two little ones can’t seem to keep their hands off of it. Best wishes for a very Merry Christmas to you and your family.

  4. Excellent news about your Mum – so glad she’s healing well. Got our tree in yesterday to be decorated today – no chocolate decorations as the dogs would have them, and just hope one of them doesn’t mistake it for a toilet!

  5. Sounds like our house. Only I am ashamed to say it was me who threw the tantrum due to lack of functioning lights. Waaaaaah!
Glad to hear your Mum is moving in the right direction.

  6. Glad to hear your Mom is getting well–sure has been a long haul, eh? Your tree is really cute, I especially like the ornament with the cookies on a baking sheet! Very fun. What little one wouldn’t love that tree ?!

  7. I’m so glad your mum is making progress – and your tree looks lovely. Putting up the tree wouldn’t be putting up the tree if there were no tantrums – they are a prerequisite in our house!
    Take care 🙂 x

  8. So glad to hear that your mum is out of her halo for Christmas. We have had a day dcorating our tree..our lights failed after 8 years and so I went and bought some new ones only to find they were faulty..and so back to the shop I went. Glad to hear I am not the only one having tree traumas!!
Hope Toby manages to restrain himself from climbing the tree..one halo in the family is enough for one year!!

  9. Good news about your mum. Let’s hope Christmas is good for her.
    Your tree looks great!
We never know where to put ours either. To be honest, the house is just too small!

  10. Great news about your Mum, wonderful.
We ended up with a playpen around the tree when Bailey was small, he often pulled the tree on his head, he he he, I can laugh now he’s 10.
Camomile tea is very good to calm your nerves or just go the glass of red … it’s Christmas after all ^i^

  11. Wonderful news about your mum, Julie!
Your tree looks lovely. I come from the school of “throw every decoration in sight at the tree” – we don’t go in for restrained and tasteful Christmas displays in this house though I do banish tinsel to upstairs …

  12. Yeah, your Mum got her halo off! This bit of news has just made my evening a bit brighter, thanks for sharing it 🙂
I’d never thought about it before, but changing the placement of the furniture and Toby’s lego table for the tree would be an upseting business for him! Thank goodness the third time was a charm and things worked out. Now it’s just about keeping him from scaling up it, and eating the deccies lol!

  13. The best x-mas present of all….the halo is off!
I wondered if Amy & Toby’s personal collection of Little Cotton Rabbits would end up on the tree too. I think little piggy would be sooooo sweet up on a branch.
Big hugs & Happy Holidays to you & the family!

  14. Your tree is looking great and it looks like much excitement abounds 🙂 And I’m with Toby on the whole chocolate eating gig – sometimes it just takes too long to get into them!
Good news about your mum too – I hope she’ll soon find chatting and eating easier.
