Another quick update…

Been to visit my mum today. Unfortunately it’s a 130 mile round trip – it’s at times like this that I wish we lived closer! Anyway despite the initial shock of seeing her strapped to the bed in a full neck brace Dad and I were pleased to find her in relatively good spirits. She’s not allowed to move her head at all and we’re still waiting to hear if she needs to have an operation – there are 3 fractured vertebrae in her back and 1 (the most seriously damaged) in her neck. She also has a fractured sternum and lots of deep bruising. It appears that it will be a long recovery period but considering she fell 2 storeys it could have been a lot worse. My mum is a real fighter and I know that she’ll have the right mindset to get back on her feet as soon as she’s able. Thanks again for all of your good wishes x

  2. I’m glad your mother is alright (all things considered) and pray for a swift recovery.
I do have a question for you. I see you have a lot of knitted toys would you happen to have a pattern for a cow or know where I might be able to order one? Seems like a silly question given your current predicament feel free to get back to me whenever you have the time since there are more pressing matters that require your attention.
    God Bless.

  3. I’m so sorry to hear about your Mum- although it sounds like she had a narrow escape.
Make sure you take care of yourself too. You’re no use to anyone if you’re over wrought and exhausted. Let us UK girls know if we can help… you might live next door for all we know!

  4. Just visited you after a few days and blimey, what a shock. How worried you must have been. Send my love to your mum (even though I don’t know her, I send my love to strangers all the time!) Me, the family of rabbits, one monkey, two chameleons and a teddy who all live in the Stash Basket (along with a few moths, who may or may not be dead by now) all have our fingers crossed for a speedy recovery.

  5. I bet you’re totally shattered – hospital visiting is really exhausting, physically and emotionally, especially if you’re doing lots of driving too. I spent the first two months of this year doing just that.
I’m amazed your Mum has got off so ‘lightly’ – it still makes me shudder to think of her accident.
Wishing you and the family all the very best. Lots of love, Lesleyxx

  6. Julie – hope you are all OK. Your mum seems to be doing really well considering. My darling husband went skydiving a week before a holiday and broke one vertabrae. Within a month he was up and about and has had no problems since. Send your mum and dad our love

  7. I wish her and you and your family all the best! I hope she will fully recover! It is hard when you live many miles away from your parents, especially in these situations. I know, because my family lives 100 km away from us, and right now my gran won’t be living long anymore, and it is hard not to be around all the time.
I wish you all the best!

  8. Julie I would love to send your Mum a get well card, would you email the address for me?
It sounds like she was very lucky to survive such a huge fall, and at her age as well.
You keep your chin up on those long drives, we are all praying for her and for you too Julie.
