I’m a great one for impulsive yarn buying – I see something I like and have to get it without having any idea of how I’m going to use it (don’t tell H!). Sometime last year I spied some gorgeously soft Debbie Bliss Cashmeriono Astrakhan in a beautiful smokey duck eggy kind of colour and I just knew I had to have some. You’d think I’d stand there, check the yardage and ponder over how many balls but no, I grabbed 2 and they were mine!
So when I finally get out my needles (a year or so later) and start knitting up a simple scarf all seems fine – until I run out of wool and end up with a scarf that is way too short to be worn how I like (folded in half with the ends pushed through the loop). So some serious thinking was needed to save this scarf from being consigned to the bottom of the wardrobe and then a inspiration struck in the form of a button!
With a little bit of gathering and the attaching of a big antique mother of pearl jobbie I’m now happy to wear it (and it goes perfectly with my gorgeous Kirstencan corsage). And the morale of the story – plan your project before you buy your yarn (yeah, like that’s going to happen!). Happy weekend all!

I love your scarf – looks fab with the button brooch and such a pretty blue 😀

It may not be as you intended – but it is so pretty! I could have done with one of those myself this morning – brrrr.

Lovely scarf, great solution! Here’s another impulsive buyer, not only yarn, fabric too…

Yup – done that! I love your solution and am now off to rumage in the bottom of the wardrobe to rescue some scarves 😉
First, I’ve got to go and put away the three odd balls of yarn I picked up at the charity shop yesterday…

Is it just me or does the bottom half of your face look just like celebrity Jennifer Aniston?
She would be VERY lucky to have a scarf as beautiful as yours!
If only I could use that button trick on the “too short” scarf I made for my husband’s birthday on Sunday!

Haha I’ve done a similar thing myself while making a cushion cover I’m so close to finishing it 1 quarter left but ran out of yarn! They’ve got some in stock now though so will be zipping down to get some soon!

I like the scarf – the colour is great! I got a couple of balls to knit a pumpkin (orange of course) and hope that there is enough to finish it!

Scarf looks great with the button, and I am sure it is lovely and soft. Happy Birthday to your daughter too. It just flies by so quickly and before you know it their teenagers.

I’m a bit like that with impulse buys so I stick to mainly sock yarn now – it’s safer!
